Every Thanksgiving, my family gets up early to drive down to New York, where we meet with aunts, uncles, cousins, and my Grandmother. Over the course of the day, delicious smells materialize as heaping mashed potatoes, green beans sautéed with onions and turkey bacon, and sweet potato casserole topped with bubbling marshmallow join the turkey on the serving table as I breathlessly await the early dinner.…

I didn’t experience my first Thanksgiving until I was 10 years old. For millions of Americans, Thanksgiving is a day for feasting on immense portions of food, watching football, and napping on the couch. However, for most of my life, it was just an ordinary day like any other, in which I was allowed to miss school, play games, and even watch some TV. It wasn’t because I didn’t know about Thanksgiving.…

My Thanksgiving break was pretty good. On Thanksgiving, I went to Indiana to my cousins' house. It was a two-hour drive, so it wasn't that long. All of my cousins are older than me- literally, all of my cousins even from I don't know where. The only people younger than me are my siblings so I'm not the youngest of ALL the people. Anyways, we had eaten all of the thanksgiving things you can possibly eat. I loved thanksgiving this year and I can't wait next year.…

The death of my beloved sister plagued our Thanksgiving celebrations for numerous years. Nevertheless, by the matchless grace of God, our beautiful traditions replaced the horrible memory of the last time I saw her alive. I remember being a little girl, sitting at the kitchen counter, watching my mother. She would be making preparations to cook us our wonderful meal. Eager to learn, I would ask, “Mom, what can I help with?” Then I’d jump down, off my chair and listen to her instructions with excitement. She put forth a lot of hours preparing and finishing everything before family and friends arrived. The kitchen would be filled with joking, laughter and storytelling. We would listen and sing to music as we helped and waited for our Thanksgiving celebration to start.…

I love the Thanksgiving holiday. In my family, it considered a time for friends and relatives to come together for food, laughter, and conversation. My favorite tradition is when the women of the family, young and old, come together in the kitchen to prepare Thanksgiving dinner. There is such a feeling of warmth and love, that, I think sets the tone for the whole day. The men are usually gathered around the largest television or running errands back and forth to the grocery store. Children are running back and forth playing, filling the house with laughter. Soon dinner is done and all activity ceases as the eldest member of the family begins to pray for the family, and give thanks, as we all stand in agreement. As the prayer closes, voices lift in loud amen and comments about the abundance of food begin.…
