Asylum Seekers Speech
Asylum Seeker

In today’s society we are safe; we can go outside and not have any worries about our safety. In Australia we have the freedom of speech; we have the right to elect our Prime Ministers. And we are very fortunate that we live in Australia and yet we all seem to take it for granted, is that because we are naive or just stupid? We Australians are a multicultural, we have different types of races in different suburbs in different cities, and yet we act like we all share the same views and values. Let me tell you a story, it is from a book I once read. A family from Afghanistan ran a secret school for Children both male and female, which is illegal in Afghanistan for females to have the right of an education. They we found out and the parents of this family were sentenced to execution, they ran, tried to buy passage with what little money they had, and not all of them made it. Boy overboard was based on a true story; if they had help from a strong, great nation like ours then maybe they would have all survived.
There whole family were seeking asylum, and yet they had to go through all that hard ache, we a Great nation need to step up our effects in helping those that need it most, Asylum Seekers. Asylum Seekers have such a bad name in today’s society, strange that. In the early 18 hundreds didn’t English people travel vast oceans on boats to seek refuge in Australia? Hmmm. Strange that 200 years later people from across the globe, are doing the same thing BUT we are locking them up in refugee camps.
Isn’t there something wrong about that? The Aboriginals, natives of Australian never locked up the English Settlers or even the convicts, they might have had their ups and downs but they never imprisoned over 2000 people, wait isn’t that the population size of Casterton? In an island 2600km away from Australia, no wonder the media says we are ungrateful for what we have.
Does Australia have really too many problems of our own to have to

This may be the most difficult speech I have ever written. Most of us are familiar with the famous photograph of a dead Syrian boy, who washed up on the shore of a Turkish beach after drowning as he family tried to escape the violence wrought by the Islamic State terrorist group, ISIS. Throughout this tragic crisis, countries from all over the world have been called forward as global citizens to help with what has been referred to as the worst humanitarian crisis of our generation. Canada being one of those countries, has promised to resettle 25,000 refugees by the end of year. Meaning within one months time we will have 25,000 more people in Canada. Those people are going to be given access to our resources, health care, and education.…

Therefore the receptiveness towards Vietnamese asylum seekers was greatly influenced by a photo displayed in the media of a young girl running naked in the country side in Vietnam after having been burned by napalm (USA Today) (La monde). This having a tremendous impact on the collective conscience of the Australian population, and the media exposure whilst horrific was to have a positive effect, insofar that Vietnamese boat people were seen to be in urgent need, therefore accepted as asylum seekers, on humanitarian…

We are seen as the best country in the world to live in... so I thought. I am the most fanatic sports person, I love watching Australia do well in everything we put our hands up for, even if we may not be successful we never quit and always fight against the odds but how can we as a nation hold our heads up high when some nationalities don't feel accepted and safe here? Nowadays people can use the internet to share their also racist thoughts, for example, Facebook is turning into a 'bash any other culture that isn't Australian' social network. One day doesn't go by where my newsfeed shows people joining groups such " were full, get out!" or even worse "spook the gook". It disheartens me as a Australian citizen to see such violent acts of cruelness is taking place. These racist thoughts and views of different nationalities makes me wonder how some people can think that our wonderful country full of fantastic opportunities is not…

These refugees have seen and experienced things humans can only begin to fathom. Some have been lucky enough to get out of the country alive, others, have not been so fortunate. Thousands have fallen by many hands; foreign, domestic, accidentally and intentionally. Yet most of the world is sitting back and watching from afar. Yes, some have stepped in to help, but it takes more than the valiant few to provide all the help that is needed. These people have faced torture, rape, murder, imprisonment, and other atrocities, yet still their only goal is to make sure their family is safe. These people deserve a second chance, someone does not just have to hand it to them on a silver platter, these people just need a helpful nudge in the proper direction to start anew. Just like countless others before them have in the same…

I have chosen to do my discursive essay on asylum seekers. I will try to separate lies from facts. I had to think carefully about this topic as there are so many different views on asylum seekers. I also opted to look into asylum seekers because I found that they are an extremely oppressed group. I will give pros and cons on asylum seekers and try to balance out my argument. The impact and influences people in power have on the mass media is tremendous. Together with the negative media coverage, asylum seekers have been given such a bad image.…
