Assisted Living main residents are invoiced at the rate of approximately $117/day for nursing care, while the Medicare residents are billed at the rate of approximately $136/day, excluding costs of medications that are managed by our staff. Currently, we do not have private residents, which Rapha will target in their marketing strategies in the coming years. However, our rates are slightly lower than our nearest competitors. We are saving gains however, through effective staff retention, flexibility of the manager and the alternate manager in scheduling and effective performing training programs by experts in the field, including the pharmacist who serves as our consultant. In effect, through his consultation services, we have avoided unintended medication errors and improved the health and longevity of our residents. Our assumption that by effectively observing the 64 Codes of Maryland Regulations 10.07.14 will save us money and improve our services has proved…

It is important to have a good understanding of cost for long term care. Long term care facilities can range from $3,293.00 to $6,965 per month (longtermcare.gov). Living with family also presents costs to be aware of. For instance, having an in-home health aide can range, on average, from $19.00 to $21.00 per hour (longtermcare.gov). Costs may vary depending on any extra charges that long term care facilities provide beyond the basic room, food, and housekeeping (longtermcare.gov). When it comes to the costs of delivering the care, and where it is to be delivered, a lot of things come into play. Residing in a LTC facility brings about a multitude of expenditures compared to staying at home or aging in place. In 2010, semi-private rooms averaged about $200 a day in a nursing home, and about $230 for a private room, and a one bedroom apartment in an assisted living facility averaged about $3,300 a month. Those costs are not all inclusive. There is usually a cost for added services such as private laundry, additional activities or programs.…

Years ago family would care for the elderly once they reached a point in their lives when they needed additional assistance and care and became unable to care for themselves. Facilities were used mainly for elderly people, those who were mentally ill, or those who were poor and had no place to go. Today long-term care facilities are used for individuals of any age, in any financial class who need professional help in performing their ADLs (activities of daily living) for a longer length of time than a hospital is able to provide. Many times these facilities are used as rehabilitation facilities where people can go for strengthening and assistance in order to reach their ultimate goal of returning to home.…

Often people look at nursing homes as a place where older adults go to live out their final days, I honestly believe this is the way society perceives nursing homes because of how older adults were cared for in the past. According to the book Community Care for an aging society. “Since the colonial period, the primary provider for the care of the elderly adults has been family.” (pg.42) (Cox) An older adult having to go to a nursing home does not necessarily mean that they are going there to live out their final days. Times have changed over the years and sometimes it is no longer an option for family to take on caring for an elderly parent or family member. From my own experience of working in a nursing home I have witnessed many older adults who are very capable of doing most ADL’s on their own given the opportunity to do so. We also know that this is not the case for some older adults residing in a nursing facility, some are incapacitated and some may be in the care of hospice.…
