Re: Appeal letter for intervention in the financial regulations
Dear Sir:
This is with reference to the new regulatory regime for financial institutions. The Laguna Group is a small collection of financial establishments that are not regulated by the Bank of Jamaica (BOJ) and have been self-regulated for the past sixty years. However, with the implementation of the new financial regulations, it is of strong belief that this will greatly impair the operations of the group. It is with this effect that we are calling upon your high esteem to intervene in this urgent matter.
The Laguna Group has been vigorous investors in the country’s financial sector and the collective strength of the industry. As a result, the group currently controls fifteen (15%) and eighteen (18%) percent of the country’s total deposits and personal loans respectively. The unwillingness of the BOJ to enter into negotiations threatens the stability of the funds controlled by Laguna. Minister, this is of grave urgency, the members of the group are willing to meet with you and BOJ to arrive at a mutually beneficial agreement to best serve the group’s existing one million working class clientele. The Laguna Group will seek to strengthen relationships with the government and the central bank; as such your collaboration would be vital in creating specific regulations that would serve the best interest of the group, the central bank, the government and the people of Jamaica.
Again, with regards to the aforementioned, we are strongly beseeching your immediate intervention in the course of these regulations. The matter has already been discussed and deliberated among the group’s members; however it is your diplomacy that will yield absolution from this regime.
We eagerly await your response. Thank you.

Respectfully,

Leo Szilard along with other scientists wrote a petition to the President of the United States. This petition addressed the concern of using nuclear weapons against the Japanese, for fear of future usage of nuclear weapons in war (Szilard). Although he was a brilliant nuclear physicist, his petition was based on his understanding of nuclear physics, the petition showed a great concern for humanity, however, it lacked the essential elements of an effective argument and was plagued with logical fallacies.…

In this paper I’m going to detail the judicial process of a Supreme Court case, which was the first of its kind. The Supreme Court did not have original jurisdiction over this case. It traveled through each juridical system before reaching the Supreme Court. This case was of interest to them, not to question it the defendant was guilty, but were his constitutional rights violated in the process of prosecuting him. This case began with an anonymous tip that the defendant was growing illegal contraband at his home. The DEA assigned Detective Padraja and Detective Bartelt to sit on the home. After making the decision that no one was home the…

My purpose in writing this essay was to show that while “A letter to the President of the United States” was written by someone who was very knowledgeable and signed or approved by many other scientists was not successful. This essay goes to show that sometimes no matter how much valid evidence is presented to an individual regarding why they should not make a decision, they disregard that and make the decision anyway. I hope that the readers are able to understand that the scientists were truly worried about what long term effects the use of the atomic bomb would have on the United States.…

I hope this letter reaches you in good health and good graces. I am writing this letter to tell you about this persistent issue I’ve had with my teeth. It all started when I was told that along with my four wisdom teeth I had to get an extra tooth which was growing on the bottom right row, extracted as well. After the first grueling month of post wisdom tooth extraction pain, came more problems. Now I have a hole in my mouth on that bottom right row and, I cant go one meal still to this day without it bleeding, and let me remind you that my teeth were extracted about six to eight months ago and the hole still bleeds after a meal, snack etc. Which also makes it hard when you want to get food out of that hole. Because the gap is wide enough after every meal something gets stuck in there and if the hole is punctured with a straw, fork, toothpick, dental floss in efforts to get the food out, it will not only cause more pain but more bleeding as well. This explains why the gap is swollen, because its been stabbed multiple times in efforts to get the food out, so now its become sore. The days you do not have a straw, fork, toothpick or dental floss readily available, the food stays there making the pain more unbearable, and making it more possible for infections. Imagine having to deal with this everyday, and your a sixteen year old boy with a job which requires a lot of talking, and with every time you move your mouth, you feel a pain from this throbbing hole, which the doctors who took your wisdom teeth and your extra tooth out said would be handled by braces, all that would be needed was the insurance company to say yes. So after breakfast, lunch and dinner, I have to take a Tylenol or Advil to reduce the pain, swelling and bleeding, and each day that I take one, the drowsier I become, which makes it a lot harder for me to do my job when Im extremely groggy. On top of all this my breathing has gotten heavier from after the extraction of the tooth, especially…

In addition to the persuasive letter who persuade the reader to take action and the good-news letter who leaves a pleasant thought, the bad-news letter provides a negative or unpleasant information to the reader. The major goal of this type of letter is to help the reader understand and accept the message. Also, maintaining a positive relationship with the reader could help the writer to promote a good image of the company. Although, the message sent is different in all these types of letters I found that they have both similarities and differences in terms of tone, approach, and organization.…

Jamaica is an English-speaking country located in the Caribbean Sea to the south of Cuba. Jamaica’s potential for growth and development is enormous; however, according to the World Bank Country (2003), as cited in Gilbert & Sookram (2009), measured Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth over the years since 1972 has been unimpressive. Apart from its economic problems, Jamaica has a serious problem with crime and violence. For years there have been numerous attempts, through policy and legislation, to reduce the level of crime in Jamaica. Based on international statistics, this is a country that has suffered from a high crime rate for years, being near the top of international homicide rate lists since the 1970’s (Gilbert & Sookram, 2009).…

Jamaica is known as an island of paradise for many individuals around the world. The culture is rich with its long white sandy beaches, crystal clear blue water as far as the eyes can see, palm trees blowing in the crisp breeze, Duns River falls, and the birth place of reggae music. Often times when the illusion of perfection is removed from a situation, clarity is identified. In reality, to the vast majority of its natives, Jamaica is a country plagued with corruption and an unprecedented wave of violent crimes (Kovaleski, 1999). It is of my opinion that the increased and continual violence that occurs is a direct result of political corruption and poverty.…

External Analysis of National Commercial Bank Jamaica Ltd To conduct an external analysis, one must evaluate three environments; the general or macro environment, the industry and the competitive environment. In this paper, we will examine NCB’s macro environment, its industry and competitive environment. General Environment According to Carpenter and Saunders (2009), the macro environment can be defined as the larger forces that a firm faces, which includes political, economic, socio-cultural, technological, environmental and legal issues. In order to analyze NCB’s general environment, we employ the PESTEL model. The PESTEL model allows managers to carefully evaluate the political, economic, socio-cultural, technological, environmental and legal framework in which firms operate in an attempt to comprehend the potential for market growth or decline (Carpenter and Saunders 2009). In order to fully apply the PESTEL model, we will first determine the significance of each PESTEL force in relation to the study of NCB. Secondly, discover and classify how the information gleaned from research can be applied to each force and finally, analyze the information and make conclusions. Political The political force examines all the factors that impact a customer’s confidence and spending, Jamaica’s political environment is fairly stable and will be evaluated in four areas stability of the political environment, taxation policies, trading agreements, trade and social welfare regulations. The system of government that exists is constitutional parliamentary democracy, operating through three branches; the legislative, executive and judiciary. The executive branch consists of the chief of state who is represented by the Governor General and the head of state - the Prime Minister - who is determined by legislative elections held no later…
