Explain what a social care worker must do if they become aware of unsafe practice.
Any unsafe practice should be recorded and reported to the manager in order to be corrected, informing all of the staff by providing training or necessary information.
Cii
Describe what a social care worker must do if unsafe practice is reported but nothing is done to ensure it is corrected. A social care worker has a duty of care & must report their concerns to the next level of management, the Care Quality Commission, the Safeguarding Team at the local Social Services department or the General Social Care Council, & write a confidential report detailing all relevant information.

Describe three factors that may make individuals more vulnerable to abuse than others.

Explain how adapting a person centred approach which offers choices and upholds rights can empower an individual and help to reduce the likelihood of abuse.
Think about what a person centred approach means - it offers choice, upholds rights & can empower an individual, therefore reducing the likelihood of abuse. It ensures equality, dignity & anti-discriminatory practices & values people's strengths. The Support Plan must exist, be followed & updated as & when necessary.

Explain how encouraging and promoting active participation can help to reduce the likelihood of abuse.
Again, think about what active participation means - encouraging & promoting independence, treating them as an individuals, giving them opportunities to speak-up, they're active partners in the care/support they receive, supported to develop skills which increases confidence & self-esteem, how to keep themselves safe, encouraged to make their own decisions based on informed choices, using individuals' preferred method of communication. Their Support Plan & Risk Assessments, where possible, should be developed with the individual Service user, & their family.
Cvi
Explain how an effective and easy to use complaints procedure can help to reduce the likelihood of abuse.
This can help by ensuring that the complaints procedure is available to all service users. It demonstrates that everyone is valued as active partners in an equal relationship, a service user can get help early to minimise/stop abuse, issues are highlighted early on so action can be taken, service users are encouraged to speak up & know that they'll be listened to, taken seriously & necessary action will be taken.
