The layout in The Sun is structured and broken up into two parts. The first part catches the audience on the front page, this is due to the headline being in bold, with a picture of the girl that has survived after being wounded and the subtitle underlined underneath. This is all positioned in the bottom right hand corner. It is effective as it stands out and catches the eye of the reader.…

Due to the fact that mass media is in the business for profit, the stories they put out are sensational. Articles and headlines are usually presented as conflicts, and with flashy titles containing some sort of wordplay, such as “Terror on the Tarmac” , the current front page headline of the New York Daily News. On the other hand, the first story about the combat process in Iraq is on page 17 . The main objective for these newspapers is to turn a profit, and that is achieved by moving the most units. The best way to move units is by drawing customers in with exciting headlines, even if they’re not the most relevant…

The audience, mostly socially liberals, are those who wish to be more politically active and informed. They want to hear what they can do to fix an issue from a source that is equally passionate about the topic. The tone is appropriately rousing, providing a course of action along with its ethos- and logos-driven information. In addition, the article was published when readers would be most susceptible, having acquired some information on the topic from the news, but still lacking the knowledge to have informed opinions or act. Accordingly, the readers learn more about the issue, see that the solution will be complicated, and are satisfied having obtained the information to act.…

Feature articles such as mine have a rather plain set out and plain heading but a big picture to entice the specific target audience to read the article. Feature articles like mine have bold text and flowing paragraphs to make it easier to read, especially since the target audience is teenagers and quite often pages of writing can be skipped by teenagers as they get distracted easily. My feature article has a rather bold headline to also catch the eye of teenage girls it reads “Diet pills consumed in large quantities by teen girls seeking athletic look” stating the words “teenage girls” in the text helps to entice readers and make them interested in the key topic of the article. This is important and done extremely well in my article, the actual text is fairly large and easy to read and the paragraphing is minimal making the text easier to read. The entire article has been set up for teenagers and has been made to look less formal than most feature articles to attract teens, and as you can imagine a big manuscript of text with no images is not going to entice a teenage…

The purpose of this text is not to tell readers only how Princess Diana died but also who’s responsible for the death and criticize them. However the news report failed to achieve their purpose they lacked to criticize the press, who were responsible for the death. Apparently BBC does not do a good job because they do not understand rhetoric and how it is situational. As a speaker they seem to be very boring and their details are not specific. News Report now these days have to be very competitive in order to attract their readers because television broadcasting seems to be taking over and influences readers the most. The audiences are the people reading the news report and are curious if they find any information that the television broadcasters did not discuss. Most of the information in this news report can be found on television. BBC does not know that the audience wants the shocking the details such as, “Who were the photographers?”, “What type of relationship Diana have with Dodi Al Fayed”, and “How did Mr. Al Fayed and chauffer died exactly?” The people who work for BBC do know their subject which is the information about the crash, but they include extraneous information that the does not relate to the crash such as “Tributes to the princess have been pouring in from around the world” which needs to be removed. In conclusion the text loses its readers by not having specific details about the crash and includes extraneous information that bore the reader. This text also proves that news report is losing its effectiveness because they cannot maintain balance of trying to entertain the readers and include specific details that make their purpose effective. The reason why news reports have to be…

Hard news is shackled with the five Ws (what, where, when, who and why) and one H (How) while feature stories are not bound by any structural guidelines and are allowed to fascinate you by an intelligent mixture of writer’s creativity and available facts on the subject. It is well said by an Englishman Lord Northcliffe that ‘it is hard news that catches readers. Features hold them’.…
