Should the federal government require mandatory service for all citizens between the ages of 18 and 35? I selected this topic primarily because we were just discussing this last semester. The fairness of this question is faulty, and this is due to the civil rights we enjoy as Americans. In order for the government to require mandatory service, the Supreme Court would have to make a ruling on its Constitutional bearing. This mandatory requirement would affect all generations, not just the current generation, and it should be to up to each generation to serve willingly.
My audience for this topic is the civic-minded adults, in the age group 18 to 35.
Requiring mandatory service for all citizens, affects everyone, and it affects the rights afforded to us by the Civil Rights Act, Bill of Rights and the Constitution.
Should DUI (Driving Under the Influence) laws be changed? I selected this topic, because I have been a victim of someone breaking these laws. Speaking personally, the laws should be stricter and harsher for offenders. Do you realize how many people come through my facility a day for breaking these laws, at least seven. That ends up being a minimum of 49 people a week being charged with DUI.
My audience for this topic is drivers.
The laws surrounding DUI should protect you, and not simply slap the offenders on the wrist.
Should changes be made to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)? I chose this topic, because there is a need to have the FDA take responsibility for staying up to date on medicine. When changes are made to any drug, we should be notified about it not only by the media, but also on the bottles themselves. However, too many times changes are made to drugs, and it takes upward to three years before labels are changed to reflect these changes.
My audience for this topic is the health conscious.
Changes the FDA make affect all of us, and they should be held responsible for keeping us up to date.

The states have taken some effective measures such as immediate lecense suspension, lowering the blood alcohol concentration legal level from .01 to .08 for adults and for people under age 21 to .02. Other's such as sobriety checkpoints, public education, community awareness, and media campaigns about the dangers of alcohol-impaired driving. In addition some strategies should be considered, such as those outlined during the Surgeon General's Workshop on Drunk Driving and in the national plan for injury prevention and control. Such strategies include changing the social norm to make alcohol-impaired driving socially unacceptable, limiting alcohol avilability among underaged youth, a lcohol service training for those who sell and serve alcohol, early alcohol treatment and rehabilitation programs, offering alternative transprotation programs for those of the leagal drinking age, and increasing the perception of the risk for arrest for alcohol-impaired driving. States like California have raised the penalty for misdemeanor drunk driving offenses to a maxium $1000 fine and one year in jail. In July, a state law took effect requiring twice-convicted drunk drivers to equip their cars wit h a breath analysis device that prevents them from starting their engines if they have a blood-alcohol level higher than .02%. And after Jan. 1, people under the age of 21 caught driving with a bolld-alcohol level .01% or greater will immediatley lose th eir driver's licenses for one year. In fact Ohio now allows officials to confiscate vehicles registered to drivers with at least four DUI convictions in a five-year period of those who twice allow their vehicles to be used by someone they know to be drun k or without a license. I do not agree with the reinstitution of a military draft. In 1973 the military draft was lifted in the United States and with good reason. The United States should not rely on a draft to fill military vacancies but rely on recruitment. It is true that the military offers incentives and luxuries that some civilians could not afford otherwise such as food, shelter, and medical care. However, they are just that, incentives. The military is an option and should remain that way.
