Thesis: The Industrialization process after the Civil War propelled America’s society, economy and politics into accelerated growth.
Outline
I. Three major aspects of industrialization between 1865 and 1920 that influenced US society, economy, and politics. A. Manufacturing B. Railways C. Homestead Act

II. List five (5) specific groups affected by industrialization and two examples for each. A. Immigrants 1. Immigration increased seeking the American dream and religious freedom 2. Opportunity for more jobs opened up for Immigrants B. African Americans 1. Assisted in the development of technology for the South 2. Increased oppression C. Businessmen 1. Creation of large corporations 2. Business strategies D. Farmers 1. Improvements in agriculture from growth of machine industry 2. Demand for farming productions decreased E. Women 1. Roles changed from working at home to working in factories 2. Gained more rights

III. List five (5) ways that industrialization affected the life of the average working American during this period A. American people benefited new invention of machinery, which automated production of goods and decreased the human labor cost B. Creation of more job opportunities in management C. Many people moved from the country to the city for job opportunities causing urbanization throughout the country D. Working conditions were not always pleasant. Factory workers usually worked in unsanitary conditions and long hours of the day E. The average working American could not afford to have sick days. There was no job security.
