Assignment 1.1: Communication Process Model
Directions: Think of a misunderstanding you experienced when communication with someone else at work, home or school. Then fill in the blank of the chart below.

Misunderstanding 1
Who was the sender? Manager at Walmart
Who was the receiver? I was the receiver.
What was the message? I was requested to complete an endcap (this is a display at the end of an isle), but wasn’t given details on what was to be put on the display or price point.
What channel was used to send the message? The channel used to send the message was face to face communication.
What was the misunderstand that occurred? The misunderstanding that occurred was the manager has a certain product they wanted on the endcap but wasn’t clear on what, so I had put a different product was put in place.
How could the misunderstanding have been avoided? Had I asked to be clear on what was being asked or the manager had taken more time to explain specifically what was wanted then I feel that we both could’ve prevented the misunderstanding.

1. What I learned about the communication process from this activity is it is important to be effective when communicating to someone by ensuring time is taken to explain what is needed and also providing feedback to ensure things are done correctly.

2. What seemed to be the main causes of the misunderstandings are the lack of time spent effectively ensuring the task is completed correctly, and my lack of providing feedback to show that I understood that was being asked.
