Introduction
I’m going to talk about a tsunami which hit many places in Asia and some parts of Africa which left many homeless and Thousands dead.

A tsunami is a giant wave of series of waves usually caused to be a volcanic eruption or earthquakes o the seabed.

As the Tsunami travels through deep water, the wave may be less than metre high but can reach speeds of up to 500 mph.

When the wave nears the land it slows down and quickly increases in height of up to 15 meters before crash landing on to the coast
When a Tsunami is forming people on shore cannot see the tsunami, because the tsunami is only a metre in height and far out in sea. The top of the Tsunami is known as the crest. While the bottom of the tsunami, which is called, the trough causes friction with the sand and that’s what causes it to slow down, and the waves increases in height.

Known as one of the worst disasters in the world's history, the Boxing day tsunami took place on December 26, 2004. The tsunami destroyed over 12 different countries and islands, including Sumatra, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and many more located by the Indian ocean. It had continued trekking countries in the Indian Ocean for over two days and left a devastating mess(Malcolm Moore and Meabh Ritchie). The only good that might have come from this terrible day in history was more knowledge about this disaster and better preparation for more to come.…

A tsunami us a large wave caused by a displacement of a large volume of water. A tsunami are the effect of a natural primary hazards meaning that they are a secondary hazard, mostly the result of tectonic activity. The Boxing Day tsunami was caused by the subduction of the indo-Australian plate boundary underneath the Eurasian plate (240km off the coast of Indonesia). In contrast, the Japan tsunami was caused by the Pacific Plate subducting under the North American plate. The Asian and the Japan tsunami’s both share the same magnitude, however the effects differ this can be explained by the differences in both contrasting: economies, perception of the natural hazard, and response/preparation.…

This is caused by shallow-focus underwater earthquake; volcanic eruption and large land slide into the sea. The displacement of the water becomes the giant sea wave and they normally have a long wavelength over 100m and low wave height when they are still in the open ocean. When it approaches shallower water near the shoreline the speed and the height increases and it can reach 700km/h. tsunami is one of the most deadly seismic hazards can cause significant damage to buildings and infrastructure. On March 11, 2011, a magnitude-9 earthquake shook northeastern Japan, unleashing a savage tsunami. It killed over 15000 people and the total cost of the disaster was over $300billion and Japan is still recovering today.…

The first of these occurred in the Indian Ocean Tsunami on December 26, 2004. According to the U.S. Geologic Survey, that tsunami was caused by a megathrust earthquake on “on the interface of the India and Burma plates and was cause by the release of stresses that develop as the India plate subducts beneath the overriding Burma plate” (USGS). National Geographic reported that the magnitude 9.0 earthquake generated as much energy as “23,000 Hiroshima-type atomic bombs” (NatGeo). This tectonic event caused tsunami waves that traveled thousands of miles, impacted 11 countries on the Indian Ocean and killed more than 250,000 people. One of the primary contributors to the tsunami death toll was a complete lack of any tsunami warning system in the Indian Ocean. In an article written shortly after the tsunami Waverly Person from the U.S. Geology Survey explained that, in addition to the lack of any sort of warning systems was the inexperience of the inhabitants in the affected countries which caused the staggering death toll. The inhabitants had never learned any of the warning signs, like a swiftly receding shoreline, because Indian Ocean tsunamis are very rare. In the years that have…

After doing research on significant events that occurred in the past 12 months within the Pacific Rim, the topic I finally decided to do my research report on was the recent earthquake and tsunami that devastated Japan’s many cities. I chose this topic because I was really interested about learning more about the issue and how significant it actually was. My purpose in writing this research essay is simply to explore and explain in detail where and why these natural disasters occurred, the background history of the issue, and how Japan has been affected environmentally, socially, and economically by these events. In addition, I will also look into initiatives the government is taking and is planning to take in order to recover from this phenomenon.…
