CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION

1. CONTEXT OF THE STUDY:
What started in 1996 as a hobby is a refurbished of consumer electronic goods. From a double garage called Blitzem Bargains, it quickly grew into a small business. From then on, Kalkan Management Company is born, the mother company of XMart Corporation, which specializes in the retail returned products.
Having gained an excellent reputation within the returns industry, Kalkan Management now deals with major import companies for their daily business needs and to run the company’s operations to maximum potential. The XMart Corporation, like the mother company, is engaged in warehousing, logistics, refurbishing/servicing and remarketing of products which came from the stocks that are faulty or over stocked from major retail stores under warranty period.
The corporation carries an extensive range of products at heavily discounted prices benefiting the community. Low prices of products, dependability, renowned customer service and expertise are some attributes that put XMart ahead of pack when it comes to dealing with refurbished goods such as power tools, electronics, furniture and gardening tools as well. The company strives to serve customers through empowering the stakeholders’ at most logical level to provide the highest quality products, unparallel service and customer responsiveness.

The proponents conducted interviews during the course of this study and had observed some problems with regards to the inventory system used by the XMart Corporation, These problems had been confided to the proponents by the warehouse manager Mr. Brian Delos Santos in an anticipation of providing the Company with a more efficient and user-friendly inventory system.
The primary issue at this point was XMart Corporation’s current inventory system not being able to perform its major task of recording the items and tracking on how many units were added simultaneously which in most cases, was the ideal task of a typical
