Ascher's Essay On Compassion
Ascher states in her essay on compassion that it has to be learned. Ascher also states that you cannot have compassion unless you have also suffered. Is suffering the only way to be compassionate? She questions as well that some help out of fear or the need to appear not to have a problem. Compassion is needed in many aspects of life, especially if you want to work in the medical field. Compassion seems to come from a few different areas of life, seeing other be helped, helping others, and suffering a situation yourself.
Frist is seeing others be helped has an effect just as much as being the one helping. When you see someone being helped the same chemicals in your brain that are activated when you are the one doing the helping are activated.

What better way to understand than to be that burn victim at some point in your life. There is a saying that experience is the greatest teacher of all. So if you have been hurt, you then know how someone feels. However, you might have a general idea of how they feel, but let’s not forget everyone is different. For example, my brothers and I grew up in the same house, however we remember childhood differently. We all perceive situations differently. You can be compassionate and caring, but how they perceive their situation, might very well be completely different than how you perceived something similar. And if you assume you know what they are going through, you could if fact be causing them more emotional distress. It can bring you closer to family or friends by sharing same sufferings. Shared suffering is another way not to feel alone or to live in fear.
In conclusion being compassionate is a great way to promote happiness for those around you. It is a way to connect with others in your life. Compassion is needed to grow as humans. Without compassion this world would be filled with more suffering than it already is. Compassion is a good trait to have if you are going into the medical field. So, if you feel you do not have enough compassion for others, you can in fact use what you have experienced, take classes on compassion, and it is somewhere deep inside you

There is no doubt that all individuals strive to achieve happiness, a healthy wellbeing and mental state. Kristin Neff’s Self-Compassion Scale (SCS) is a self-report instrument that attempts to measure self-compassion through scoring based on 26 questions directed at each component. The three core components measure self-kindness (treating one’s self with kindness in an adverse situation), common humanity (recognising that all humans are flawed) and mindfulness (being in the present moment without resistance). In addition, three opposite constructs have emerged from these core components called self-judgement (criticising one’s self), isolation (blaming one’s self and feeling like the only person to be affected by the situation) and lastly…

Compassion and selflessness are important parts of social justice because they make it possible for certain actions to be carried out and guarantee that everyone gets the same opportunities whether it’s feeling safe or being successful. Social justice can be shown or explained in many different ways, but I think the best way to explain it is… no two humans are the same, but when it comes to social, political, and economic rights, we should be able to see that everyone is given the same opportunities. Rather than putting ourselves above others because of race, religion, or wealth, we should help those who feel that they do not have the opportunity or ability to be socially just. Compassion plays a key role in social justice because if you are…

I can start to not ignore people and their problems and actually going up to people in public who look like they are in need of help. Suffering is part of life. It has many forms and it starts from birth till death. My response toward other’s suffering depends on many factors; sometimes I become indifferent and sometimes I try to help. For example, when I see an old woman, works as a cleaner, collects others’ garbage, I try to help by putting my garbage in the trash basket. In some situations I pretend to be indifferent because I cannot provide any help. Like when I see a couple fights or a mother hits her child in a public place, I cannot help because I do not know the reason behind their behavior or even my help might make another problem. All what I can do is feeling sympathy with the ones in suffer. On the other hand, I become completely indifferent when suffering is…

Self-compassion is, in essence, cutting yourself some slack. It's being willing to look at your mistakes or failures with kindness and understanding—without harsh criticism or defensiveness. Studies show that people who are self-compassionate are happier, more optimistic, and less anxious and depressed. That's probably not surprising. But here's the kicker: they are more successful, too. Most of us believe that we need to be hard on ourselves to perform at our best, but it turns out that's 100 percent wrong. A dose of self-compassion when things are at their most difficult can reduce your stress and improve your performance, by making it easier to learn from your mistakes. So remember that to err is human, and give yourself a break.…
