Color-Mood Analysis

Book(s): Twilight Saga

Color Scheme:

ANALYSIS: a) Colors used and moods conveyed * RED
Twilight Saga is a romance series between supernatural beings and humans. One of the three colors used in the books covers is red. Here, it impresses the romantic content of the novel. Aside from that, it portrays a lush of mystery and enticement to the viewers; something that would make them go deeper to what the novel is all about. Red was used to give accent to the neutral colors and it also adds elegance and formality of the novels. The deep red color stirs up the emotion and the curiosity of the viewer. But it is accompanied by the symbols used in each cover; simple yet carries a deep meaning so audiences are made more thrilled about the covers connection to the story. * BLACK
Black was associated more with the mystery and the dark side of the saga. It highlights the colors red and white making them standout more. It gives a mood of fear but somehow alluring. It gives way to the intensity of the red because of the contrast made. * WHITE
The color white gives the saga a sense of purity, innocence and elegance. The color palette itself that was used conveys formality and richness which obviously connects to the concept of the novel series. b) Cultural and Cross-cultural Relations
The formality of the palette and its overall impression shows more the Western taste. Since the author is from the western side, it’s a culture-inspired cover but for Filipino readers, or other Asian people, the novel’s color theme isn’t that relatable to them than the Westerns to themselves. In Philippines for example, it’s a tropical country so the first impression of the Saga’s appearance is foreign since here in the country, most color palettes are influenced by nature’s colors. Most of them are bright and warm colors. c) Seasonal Connotations
The palette used projects a feeling of coldness. Concerning the story, the setting of the

The colours he used are saturated, embodying power and bright contrast. The drastic use of colour depicts the overall dynamic of Carmichael’s work. The foreground has hills that are composed of different tones of greys that are warmed with the use of muddy browns to create volume. The coolness of the blues and greys in the sky are contrasted with the warmth of the hills that are accented with playful, liberal strokes of mustard yellows and greens that amplify warmth in the foreground. In opposition to the murky and mundane colours of the sky and foreground, he paints the sky with vivid tints of blue. The smooth gradation of the blue sky creates a softness that seems to resist getting consumed entirely by the dim colours of the clouds and hills. The artist has not restricted his colour palette and created a clear contrast between the uses of the two different temperatures of colours. The pairing of a wide range of contrasting colours demonstrated in the clouds, sky, and hills strays away from harmonizing the entire painting and suggests a force of creative…

For instance, in “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” the competitor’s candy shops are shown to have de-saturated colors. With Wonka’s candy shop business booming the other candy shops are creating odd sorts of candies to beat out Wonka, local kids are seen trying each of the candies out. The shades of the other candy shops lacks in color compared to the vivid color used in Willy Wonkas candy shop in order to show how important to the community and financially Wonka’s store is. The soft colors of the competitor candy stores create a mood of despair, because the muted colors show how unimportant their stores are becoming due to Wonka’s. Such as in “Edward Scissor Hands” there is a high key lighting over the pastel houses as mothers and fathers are heading to work one by one in an orderly fashion. The color of the cars and homes match, streets bare of trees, yet look aesthetically pleasing. The light in this scene makes the suburbs feel mellow and calm, giving the effect of a pleasant area and life led by the people there. The soft colors also create an appearance of a peaceful neighborhood. Hence, light and color can create moods of weakness and…

In physics, a color is a visible light with a specific wavelength. Black and white are not colors because they do not have specific wavelengths. Instead white light contains all wavelengths of visible light. White is generally used to represent purity, innocence, and new beginnings. In chapter 1, page 19, Daisy states while speaking to Nick, “From Louisville. Our white girlhood was passed together there. Our beautiful white–.” Daisy and Jordan’s childhoods crossed paths with their purity, free of obscenities, and complete with innocence. Essentially, they both had safe beginnings with corrupted ends.…

Black and white are opposite. It would be assumed that they would never be used together because the result would be rather grey. It would be assumed that this sort of comparison could never be beneficial. Although this is not the case in writing. For authors use paradoxes (such as black and white) to enforce themes. Shakespeare uses paradox to enforce themes, such as hate vs. love to exemplify the theme of the irrationality of ruthless hate, and youth vs. age enforcing impulsivity and open mindedness of the young and closed mindedness of the elder.…
