Artificial Turf
Many schools and parks have moved to artificial turf claiming benefits for maintenance costs and aesthetics but have ignored other important factors when choosing a playing surface. Natural grass provides a safer play surface and is better for the environment than artificial turf. Injuries are more common on artificial turf, especially concussion, heat related and joint stress issues. (Meyers M, 2004.)Surface hardness is an important factor in head injuries caused by playing surface contact. (Penn State, 2016). A Gmax test is used to evaluate surface hardness, with a 200 Gmax as the highest recommended limit for safety. Most artificial fields installed have a Gmax of 130 when new, and increases over time. Natural grass fields typically have a Gmax of 80-140. Natural grass can be easily aerated to maintain desired Gmax ratings, but an artificial surface needs more extensive repairs and maintenance.
Artificial turf has higher incidents of injuries to joints (Grens, 2012). Artificial turf produces higher torque, velocity, and friction than natural grass. A foot torqued on grass will typically create a divot, but the artificial does not

For protection players only have shin guards to use and the goalkeeper has padded gloves to avoid injuries. There is additional equipment needed for this sport like flags and cones. Unlike American Football, the players have to wear much more gear than Soccer. The players also have to use a uniform. Therefore, football players are required to use football cleats, tight pants, and a jersey that states the player’s name, number, and team identity. Each jersey number categories the position of the player. The jersey needs to be larger in size so it can accommodate the shoulder pads that players use as protection for their upper body. The definition of vegetation is plants considered collectively especially those found in a particular area or habitat. The amount of vegetation that occurs in soil depends on the type of habitat that the soil belongs to. Each habitat has inhibitors and prohibitions that affect the amount of vegetation that each plot of soil is capable of producing. Inhibitors of soil are plots that receive a decent amount of sunlight and precipitation; while prohibitors are soil erosion, temperature, lack of precipitation and P.H. Winthrop University’s research area is 325 acres; which includes a large wooded area, three successional plots, and 1.1 acre wetland area. The successional plots are 50 x 50 meters and each of the plots is five years apart in age. The oldest plot was originally created in 1989. In a previous study on the Chinese Loess Plateau to determine how physiochemical properties, microbial biomass, and enzyme activities changed the natural succession for abandoned farm land. The experiment involved aged and abandoned farmland from zero to fifty years old and the results were the PH was lower for the older farmland compared to the younger farmland.(Wang, Liu, Xue, Zhu, paragraph 1) Pertaining to the results of the past study, the objective of the study was to evaluate…

Over the past decade, soccer has been becoming an even more popular sport than it once was. With this popularity though, comes a greater chance for injury. Most soccer-related injuries include ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) tears or meniscus tears, but there is a much more dangerous injury making up “22% of the total injuries in football” (Al-Kashmiri 189). Note, that in this instance, and many more, “football” is referring to the non-American term for soccer. A concussion, defined by Monica E. Maher, is “a complex pathophysiological process, induced by traumatic biomechanical forces” (271). Since soccer is a growing popular sport, especially in young children, there are many ways for amateur players to get injured.…

Every sport can have its athletes suffer anything from a torn ligament to life threatening injuries. Collisions with the ground, objects, and other players are common. Some sports-related injuries, such as sprained ankles, may be relatively minor, while others, such as head or neck injuries, can be quite serious. The amount of contact allowed between players differs between football and basketball. Physical contact between basketball players of opposing teams is highly discouraged and may actually result in a foul. In football, contact is highly encouraged Basketball is near the top of the list when it comes to injuries.
