Article Writing – Pramukh Swami Maharaj - Humility Par Excellence
In 2010, a research had been conducted, in which people aged between 75-80 had to duplicate everything that happened in America in the 1960’s. They had to wear the same clothes, eat the same food, enjoy the same entertainment etc. From this, the researchers realised that one week of change in these people’s lives, changes everything. Pramukh Swami Maharaj faces changes everyday yet nothing about him has changed. His love for his devotees, his simplicity, profound wisdom and transparent compassion has stayed the same ever since he became the guru of this International Sanstha. Swamishri has eternal virtues but one virtue that has amazed some of the world’s greatest spiritual leaders, devotees and santos is his striking humility.
A wise man once said, “Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it’s thinking yourself less.” In Vachanamrut Gadhada III/ Chapter 39, Bhagwan Swaminarayan has said, “Aham mamattva thaki sauthi vadhare apne nadtu hoy to ‘hu’ ane ‘maru’.” In this Vachanamrut, Shreeji Maharaj has said, “Maya is nothing but the sense of I-ness towards the body and my-ness towards anything related to the body.” Maharaj then goes on to say that we should “Have the company of the sant who has transcended maya.” Pramukh Swami Maharaj is the ideal sant who has transcended maya hence the words ‘I’ and ‘mine’ do not exist in his vocabulary. He never says ‘this is mine...’ or ‘I did this...’
Pramukh Swami Maharaj is untouched by all his accomplishments, awards and fame. He never takes credit for what he has accomplished. Why? Because of one simple reason. He believes that it is all due to the grace of Bhagwan Swaminarayan and our gurus. Nothing is possible without their grace. Besides Swamishri being the president of B.A.P.S that has been honoured with many awards, his clear humility has appealed to countless people. Swamishri had just finished meeting a political leader when P.Brahmavihari Swami

During this class I have made two self- discoveries that will positively impact my career goals. Those self- discoveries has helped to mold, and shape me into a student that I have never thought I would be. Those discoveries were that I am an organized learner, because I made a study plan to help me determine when, and how I would study. Being that I have five children, I had to make sure that I had set a schedule so that my course work including study time would not affect my family time and take away from spending time with my children and fiance`. Since these are the competing priorities in my life right now learning to obtain trust and consistency in the home while I have been attending school has also improved because not only do I see my success so does my children and fiancé. Knowing that I had that support also has made it possible to do my best in school, setting the pace for them to do the same in school also, whether it be good grades, sports, etc. I know that they will continue to be good at what they do and have proven to do so time after time.…

Since the pursuit of desire has proved to be humanly unfulfilling, Hindus will reach out to seek something greater. Through these changes the Path of Desire becomes the Path of Renunciation. Smith discloses that renunciation represents duty, which we continue our search for meaning and understanding. In our lives, we discover that pleasure for outselves is not enough. We have a duty to fufill in communities, and to help others. As Smith states, we “transformed the will-to-get into the will-to-gibe, the will-to-win into the will-to-serve”(Smith 19). We receive longer lasting pleasure from sharing out happiness with others, and extending our pleasure to a larger audience, which brings respect and gratitude from our…

Starting writing is always difficult even for the most experienced writers; and, an even more significant challenge for beginning writers. According to Mr. Donald M. Murray, author of Teach Writing as a Process Not a Product, writing is a process of discovery, and it has three necessary steps: prewriting, writing, and rewriting. The most important part of this process, the prewriting, sometimes passes imperceptibly through beginning writers' eyes; at first view, it seems a real waste of time. Although prewriting is hard work and can vary from person to person, it represents the majority of the total work, being an essential part of the writing process. The step of researching the topic and putting ideas on paper, even in a disorganized way,…

It is important to follow a structured writing process with all of your writing projects because it gives all of your thoughts and ideas a guideline to follow. Without having a guideline to go by you are just free-writing and throwing all of your ideas into one big pile. This can confuse your audience and they can quickly lose interest in your point of view. When your writing is structured it allows you to make sure that everything in your writing not only relates to the topic, but also to the readers who will read it. Having a properly structured paper also helps for you to be consistent with your approach to writing, and it is much more professional.…

I disagree with the argument used in Peter Katopes' article, which gives his opinion on how a "Business Model" used in colleges is a wrong model, because this would decrease the enrollment rates and make colleges less satisfying to it's customers. Katopes strongly stresses that "the business model, which prizes 'customer satisfaction' or 'efficiency' above all else, has led in higher education to an imbalance in the relation between student and institution." His opinion is highly valid, but could very well lead to a downfall in student enrollment rates in general. Many universities are chosen by students for opportunities to take part in unique extracurricular activities provided, and even for a great time and bragging rights from the schools reputation. Also, with a strictly educational based model, which includes "teaching them to live and serve within a context of responsibility, prudence, and care" that Katopes believes should be the only primary focus for colleges, may dampen the students interests in the entire college experience itself.…
