The Stanislavski method is very confusing to me because it makes the actor think of memories and feelings from the past that can relate to the character being portrayed in the scene/play. I was confused because having a memory of a specific emotion doesn’t really have the same exact emotion that the character is supposed to feel. I can see why in certain situations why using the Stanislavski method would be appropriate (ie. A death that the actor hasn’t ever experienced) but if the emotion was to be ecstatic I don’t see the point in going back to a memory to remember that feeling because it’s an easy emotion to “act” in. During the object analysis activities during class I struggled a lot. First, I couldn’t find a object that fit my monologue perfectly. I started out with a picture frame to symbolize the friendship my character has with the murderer but I didn’t connect with it like the rest of the class did with their object. I scrambled to find another object so I could restart and I came up with a friendship bracelet for the guy that is killed in my monologue. I figured out after our activity that day that it STILL didn’t fit my monologue. I felt like the class periods focusing on the objects slowly was hurting my monologue because I tried to come up with emotions to go with random objects that didn’t make sense to go with my monologue. After the activity when we switched partners and recited our monologues, I felt that this helped me A LOT because I wasn’t focusing on my object I was focusing essentially on “Stephanie” in my monologue. I found that this was so much easier to connect an emotion with because I wasn’t forcing myself to come up with any emotion to go with the objects before, I was actually talking to one person and the emotions came naturally. Honestly Ms. O, the object analysis activities were boring for me because I had nothing to connect with, but I really really enjoyed speaking my monologue to someone that wasn’t my BEST friend, it made raw

“The Way” is one of the most inspirational movies I have ever witnessed. It centers around a man, his son, and their journey along the Camino de Santiago. Tom, an esteemed Doctor, learns that his son has passed away in a storm while traveling along the Camino de Santiago. The movie shows scenes of the father-son relationship between Tom, and his son and it quickly becomes clear that the two did not always see eye-to-eye. Tom learns that his son has passed away, and immediately travels to St. Jean Pied de Port, France to gather the remains of his son. Upon his arrival, he soon decides that he has some unfinished business to complete. Rather than go home, and continue to live an unsatisfying life, he decides to make the journey along the Camino in order to honor his son’s aspiration to travel this historic pilgrimage. In the beginning, Tom is simply going on the Journey for his son’s sake, but as the journey progressed, it becomes clear that everyone has his or her own reason to travel the Camino. Along the journey, Tom meets a few interesting people, and soon creates an everlasting bond with them. The group comes across many obstacles and hardships along the way but eventually reach the end of the Camino. Near the end of the movie, it is…

My chosen restaurant is Alebrije. Since Alebrije is so close to multiple schools in the 19610 area, it can be said that the target market for Alebrije is the population of 19610 that is at (or almost at) the “young married with children” and all the way through those at the “older married” stage. It is beneficial for Alebrije to target the Generation X consumers, the baby boomers, and the families of heads of household that are over 55. The Generation X consumers are more likely than others to indulge themselves and baby boomers and families with heads of household over 55 are more able to afford spending fifty dollars per meal, than others are. Through its prices, it specifically targets middle class people since they are the only ones who can afford to spend tens of dollars on each specific item.…

    De Las Casas

In Bartolome De Las Casas’s “from The Very Brief Relation of the Devastation of the Indies” a lot of descriptive verbiage is utilized to paint a distinct picture of good vs. evil in an unjust world. Referencing the Spaniards as Christians is done with a great deal of anger, and sarcasm. These Spaniards performed many acts of evil as they brutally tortured, killed, and enslaved the Native American peoples. According to De Las Casas “they attacked the towns and spared neither the children nor the aged nor pregnant women nor women in childbed, not only stabbing them and dismembering them but cutting them to pieces as dealing with sheep in a slaughter house”. (40) This was such a gruesome, cruel, and violent act of murder, without regard to even those we view as pure innocence such as that of a child. This provokes the reader to feel an intense sorrow and heartache for these innocent Native Americans. De Las Casas portrays the Native American people as innocent, gentle prey to the Spaniards, thus referring to them as “sheep.” They were deemed weak in their efforts to fight back, and they were unable to seek refuge in the mountains where they tried to flee. This piece incorporates multiple biblical representations throughout as well. The “sheep” biblically represent the followers of Christ, and they are submissive followers with little to no resistance like that of the Native American peoples. However, the so-called Christian Spaniards acted like ravenous, greedy animals rather than human Christ like leaders.…

    Cabeza de Vaca

Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca is best known as the first Spaniard to explore what we now consider to be southwestern United States. His nine-year odyssey is chronicled within the book The Chronicle of the Narvaez Expedition. His account is considered especially interesting because it is one of the very first documents that illustrates interactions between American natives and explorers. However, when examining the exploration of the modern United States, there are many arguments that have to do with the entitlement to the land and the motivations behind settling in the first place. Most explorers were obviously in favor of their own conquests and Cabeza de Vaca is of course no exception. In Chronicle of the Narvaez Expedition, Cabeza de Vaca seems to be in favor of this exploration by outwardly expressing superiority and pity towards the Indians while secretly appreciating their accommodating nature throughout the conquest in order to justify his entitlement to their land to the rest of . As him and his Spanish conquistadors make their westward journey on foot they encounter many obstacles among these having to do with natural disasters and the Indians they come across that all prove to be extremely telling of the differences between western cultures and that of the Indians and the historical motivations behind conquest in general. This physical and emotional struggle of accommodation between races…

Cabeza de Vaca experienced many changes throughout the years he spent with the natives, both in himself and in his view of the native people. At first, his opinion and relationship with the indians was not a good one. However, after receiving much help from them during the difficult times in their expedition, his respect for the native people grew. Also, after getting lost and having to survive alone in the wilderness with no food, he changed significantly as a man. He somehow kept himself alive for five days alone in the wilderness, and he definitely showed a change after this.…

The world is full of many explorers, much of many who honestly are unqualified and are worthless, as explorers. In contrast, once they do a single thing that is miraculous and they change the entire perspective of who they are and what they are really capable of. Out of any explorer out there my explorer is beyond the best explorer, not only for what he has done, but for his very own name. My explorers name is Alvar Nunez Cabeza De Vaca, which in contrast from every other explorer has the coolest and weirdest name out there. For many of you who don’t necessarily know what Cabeza de Vaca means, it means Cow head. Although his name was weird and funny catching, he also was the first to do much of many things, like being the first European to describe America from Florida through Arizona. His writing is the oldest out of any other about history we have of the Native Americans, and he set out the stage for the conquest of this continent.…

Through reading the material presented in Lesson One I have discovered aspects of my personality in which can be both positive and negative when used in the communication process with others. There are two important aspects when determine ones style and personality, emotional expressiveness, and assertiveness. My perceptions of emotional expressiveness in my personality include, speaking quickly, using short amounts of eye contact, using hand gestures, and tone of voice. I tend to speak quickly when I talk to others. I speak faster when I am anxious, nervous, or angry. I do this because I am not comfortable and flustered. A problem I face is that my brain is working faster than my way of communication in both speech and writing. My brain is already thinking of words in advance before I am finished what I am trying to say or write. I am conscious that I speak quickly and usually catch myself in the act. I try to slow down and speak clearly. I also can be over bearing when trying to express a point or how I feel. I am usually emotionally reserved and quiet. I strongly believe in tossing out personal issues as soon as I walk into the workplace. I tend to talk a lot with my hands, and I become fidgety when I have lost interest in the conversation topic. When working with someone who is upset I try to stay quiet and hope they resolve it on their own. When it comes to assertiveness I am reserved when around new people. It takes me a while to become comfortable. I am an…

I did not like to communicate what I was feeling or thinking, because I was worried that people would judge me or disagree with my opinion. However, through a combination of this class and my work in counseling, I have become a better communicator, and there have been a couple times recently that I have actually gone to people and talked to them about what I was feeling and what I needed. I am also more aware of how much work I still need to do to become an even better communicator and how to make sure that I am getting my needs fulfilled in every relationship that I have. This means that I have to become a more assertive communicator instead of passive, because being passive did not allow me to get what I needed from my relationships, and the things that I need are just as important as anyone else’s…

Stanislavski had his own acting conventions and they were to stop actors becoming 'sheep like' and not following the habitual way of performing on stage but instead, to focus their actions and mannerisms in a way that a person would carry on as themselves in their private life. Therefore, the dramatic style that actor were using at that time made him dissatisfy. He wished to create a theatre that could portray real, convincing and believable life on stage. In order to help actors portray the honest objective of the character, Stanislavski pioneered a concept called the “magic if.” To help connect the character to the actor, performers must ask themselves “What if this situation happened to me?” Through this activity, actors identify with characters as possible aspects of themselves, allowing them to think like the characters, rather than just impersonate them. Furthermore, he wanted actors to be able to feel their characters’ range of emotions and to make their actions seem convincing. Then, the actors would almost ‘become’ their character and know how to access and utilize their own memories or feelings when playing a certain role or action. Relaxation is also one of the conventions that are still being used…
