Art II: Final Portfolio Analysis
Art II: Final Portfolio Paper Over the past semester, I can strongly say that I have grown immensely as an artist. I have been able to widen my range of skills as well as increase them overall. One of my best works, as well as one of my favorites is my Expressionist painting. Ih results in a nspired by one of my best friends, Eleanor, my painting displays a variety of Expressionist principles. Expressionism is based on the distortion of form and color, which often results in a wide array of expressed emotions. By creating colors that blended well and by using smooth brush strokes, I am able to create unity within my painting, which in my opinion makes it one of my successful works. Coming from a person who normally avoids painting and also …show more content…
However, my overall favorite, and in my opinion my most successful work is my spill drawing. Throughout the process of creating my piece, I focused on the realistic properties of my piece as well as the overall effect of the piece as a whole. While drawing, I paid attention to all the details. I kept a picture of a real eye close by, which I referenced multiple times and was therefore able to create a more realistic looking piece. In order to create a realistic looking piece, I had to focus on many different techniques while drawing. By using a picture as a reference, I was able to better recreate the values and details, and therefore creating a realistic drawing. For example, I paid close attention to the value and shading around the eye itself. Along with paying attention to value and details, my technique also significantly impacted how I went about drawing. For me, as well as most artists, the use of blank space is just as important as the penciled in part. For instance, I erased part of the iris of the eye in order to create a reflection, which in turn made it look more realistic. Overall, my spill drawing is my favorite and most successful work that I have created over this past semester. By focusing on value, shading, and precise details I was able to create a realistic drawing that I am proud to call my …show more content…
For me as an artist, I prefer to create visual pieces or 2-D, mainly by drawing or painting. However, one of my biggest strengths in being an artist and a person in general is my creativity. Being a creative person makes me a good artist. I use the ideas I get and then I am able to turn them into works of art. Everytime I sit down ready to do something with art, I brainstorm ideas of what to do and my mind just starts to race. No matter what situation I am put in, I am positive I can be creative in an unique way to create something wonderful. However, like any other person, I have my weaknesses as an artist. From time to time I am given the task to create something three dimensional. Ever since I was little I have struggled with creating something 3-D. I prefer to use a pencil to draw rather than to use my hands to sculpt something. With anything I do, I will always run into things that I struggle with along with the things that I can excel at. The past semester in Art II has made me a better artist. From learning different techniques to just creating art in general, I have been able to expand my skills as an artists. In the next years I hope to continue to use these skills and to become a better artist as well as a better

The first tribe I describe myself as belonging to is the tribe of creative expressionists, which thrive in areas of self expression and creativity. "I draw because words are too unpredictable. I draw because words are too limited" (Alexie 5). I sometimes find it difficult to express and understant the emotions I feel raging inside. In these moments, I enjoy experimenting with vibrant splashes of paint across a canvas or dark scrawling into a notebook to better understand or cope with these feeligns. I relish being able to question why things work the way that they do, and the freedom to add my personal insights into a situation in order to come up with creative solutions. Being boxed-in or pushed into 'conventional' methods of systematic processes is arduous and boring to me. Instead, I enjoy being able to question why things work the way they do, and being able to add my own personal insights in a situation to help come up with creative solutions. In some ways, I am not always practical in the ways I approach a situation, preferring to rest upon something's potential, rather than seeing the raw reality of what it actually is-- I am an idealist to the core, and sometimes find it difficult to let go of the ideals in my mind, in favor of compromising to reach a realistic solution.…

From an artistic point of view Expressionism is the opposition of impressionism (which is merely displaying concrete meaning) by creating ambiguity and diversity through the techniques of abstraction. (Eisner, 1973: 10) Abstraction is a form of art expressing abstract thoughts of artists, thoughts that are more concerned with ideas and multifaceted concepts rather than objects with concrete meaning. (Eisner, 1973:13) Expressionism does however contain contradictions since certain artists believe in ‘intensive Expressionism’ which conforms to absolute individuality since the artist expresses a self obsessed world. On the other hand, certain expressionist artists…

I really like that you focused on impressionism in your paragraph. I was really impressed and inspired by how it came to be. A group of artists that were rejected time aft time by the Salon, which was the by all to end all art show of the time, banded together in a way and produced their own version of art and became huge movement an respected art style. Art to me is all about self-expression, and I can’t think of a better part of one’s self to express than the ability to handle setbacks gracefully. These inspiring young artists took rejection and turned it into something beautiful and creative, rather than let it defeat them. I really admire that.…

There have been some challenges with drawing. For one, I got what seems to be a pretty late start, only starting to really draw my freshman year of high school, and while that may seem young to some, it seems like usually, people start to draw or to make comics when they are still in middle school. So when I did draw, it always seemed like my drawings were “falling behind” the drawings other artists of my own age group had created. After I had finished drawing something, I was always so proud of it… up until I visited the internet and saw all of the drawings that were so much better.…

I have been doing art for as long as I can remember. From the time I was in Kindergarden to my senior year in high school I've been doing arts and crafts. I've had art teachers, vacation bible school leaders, and my parents teaching me how to create things my whole life. I usually only recieve art instruction when I sign up for art courses. I've completed all sorts of art projects including paintings, clay, abstract, landscapes and all other types of activities. I had two very good art instructors in high school and they were very critical and rewarding and that probably is why I enjoy art as much as I do. I've had a very broad range of activities from drawing with charcoal and pencils to painting and sculptings. For the most part most of my art activities weren't holiday centered they were more of your own imagination and idea's. All of my art projects were graded on pretty specific grading rubrics. It measured how much you worked on it and made sure that you followed all of the necessary guidelines. I have had a great experience with art in my past and I'm excited to learn more about it. My strengths in art I would say would be that I really enjoy drawing and shading pictures of things and my weakness is that I don't really know that much about the history of art and where it all came from. Art relates to society very much so. Advertising is used everywhere you go and you wouldn't have that without art skills. I am very excited to learn more about the history of art and sharpen up my old art…

Art is a curse that will grab you once you're hooked and hold on to you for the rest of your life. Art doesn't hold people’s hands through the rough patches, of course; she makes them work for it. If someone thinks that art is easy then they have another thing coming, because art doesn't kiss on the first date. Art had forced me to confront the emotions that I was not ready to confront. I have met jealousy through other artists’ artworks and I know frustration through mine. I become frustrated and blinded by my work when I am unable complete it because I can’t translate the image in my head to the paper on my easel, and there is so much that I wanted to say through my art, but my hands can’t seem to work right.…
