When I was growing up, I was always told that choosing an art career, or something involving art, was a bad idea. "No, you'll end up working at a fast food restaurant when you can't find work," was a phrase I heard often when talking about my future college career in middle school. "Art is a good hobby, but you'll never be able to support yourself with an art degree," was another phrase I heard, and I felt that was the hardest to hear; it entailed that I might not have been good enough to support myself.
