Darl in his chapters is a well-spoken, poetic, clear writer in contrast with his other family members who are incoherent or barely speak. Because of his analyses and descriptions he has become somewhat of the narrator of the book. Darl is intuitive and the most intelligent, sane character in the book: “Rusted, greased-fouled, its cracked chimney smeared on one side with a soaring smudge of soot, it sheds a feeble and sultry glare upon the trestle and the boards and the adjacent earth.” (pg. 75) Darl is also the character that has the most narrative sections in the book.…

Greasy lakes is an excellent yet outrageous story, due to the descriptions and comparisons that Tom Coraghessan Boyle throws at his readers. Its these mysterious descriptions and comparisons, that hold the key in identifying the hidden symbols in this story. Three major symbols are the name Greasy, the narrator gives the lake, the lake itself and how the narrator‘s filth reflects on the lake , and the mislaid car keys. These symbols played an immense part in the revelation of the narrorator “bad character”.…

John Green has this given ability to squeeze every detail about a character into this novel. This allows the reader to be able to create a deep connection with a character based on the descriptive background, appearance and traits that the author clearly depicts. Imaging a character how an author describes really allows one to open their mind to the world of the character and their lives. However, John Green uses situational irony again to assist in the character’s development by giving the reader an explanation of the character, but later on the reader discovers a completely hidden side to the character. This is especially evident in Margo Spigelman because one may believe she is beautiful, happy, and poor when in reality she experiences an unhappy and rich lifestyle. This is shown when Margo leaves town and leaves behind those mysterious clues for those who truly understand her…

Among the most realistic of Verne's "imaginary voyages", this novel describes how Phileas Fogg, a reclusive, eccentric, British bachelor, wagers some members of his club that he can travel completely around the globe in just eighty days, based on rail and steamer schedules available to this very punctual man. So off he goes, on what should have been a fun-filled, adventure-packed journey. Unfortunately, this precursor to the science fiction novel has not held up well over the years, and it's really a testimony to the ever-changing world that we live in that this was ever considered an adventure novel. Too often the action takes place "out of scene" and is only described after the fact, losing the story's intensity and immediacy. The characters are quite one-dimensional; Passepartout, the faithful French manservant, provides only the barest minimum of comic relief, and Aouda, the love interest, isn't much more successful. The real stars should have been the different cultures and modes of transport experienced by the travelers, but even these are often treated in a cursory fashion. Instead, the focus is on timetables and detours and the hapless Detective Fix, who believes that Fogg is wanted for robbery.…

The concern presented through “Prufrock” is the restricting and crushing pressures to live up to the standard in society. The depiction of the fog presents the city as being smothering and claustrophobic as it “rubs it’s muzzle on the window panes”, which, being fragile glass can only hold out for so long against the oppression of the city. The animal imagery of the fog (“muzzle”, “back”) and its clouded swirling nature tells us that the society is ever changing and growing, reaching into “every corner of the evening” and influencing every part of Prufrock’s life.…
