It states in the Phantom Warrior Standard book that every soldier obtains upon arrival to Fort Hood that, “Courtesy among members of the Armed Forces is vital to maintain military discipline. Respect to seniors will be extended at all times.” I have apparently disrespected a fellow soldier of higher ranking than myself. I was asked to not walk and smoke at the same time after taking three steps to hand off a set of the keys that unlock the conex. But because it was only three steps I took it as a joke when she informed me of it. I was obviously wrong to assume that just because me and her were buddies that she was not serious because it was only THREE steps. I should not joke around with my fellow soldiers anymore and take everything she says to me as a complete serious statement from here on out. Military bearing is conducting and carrying oneself in a matter befitting the characteristics of a soldier. Any disrespect I may show towards my leaders can have a negative effect on the Morale and Welfare of those around me, whether junior or senior. If I am not conducting myself with correct protocol and a soldier who is junior to me sees my behavior, he may believe that I am right because I outrank him. Then this soldier may continue this behavior thinking it is correct. Now because this behavior has been passed on, the leaders will have a harder time dealing with their soldiers. That kind of chaos in the military can ultimately lead to death.
