Arizona College Tutoring Reflection
Yes, last week was really difficult for me! I'm pursuing my degree in nursing through Arizona College and doing my prerequests through Keiser University, so I was able to take advantage of the free tutoring available at Arizona College. I put my kids in daycare for the week and I was at the Arizona College campus from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. studying and being tutored. I feel that I understand the concepts that we are studying each week, however the math portion is what I'm having a hard time with since I havent taken a math class in about ten years. I feel that I'm able to do the problems but they are taking me a long time to complete and since the time frame for the test is fifty minutes I run out of time and I'm left guessing on some of the

The most difficult concept for me was in week eight when we solved fractions, decimals, percent and real number problems. This concept was difficult because I had to spend more time on them. My biggest struggle was fractions and decimals because I do not use them on a daily basis. When I am helping a struggling child with fractions, I will use food, candy, or manipulative to teach them fractions in addition to helping the student in the classroom by letting him…

This semester has been a little difficult for me; I have faced many challenges and still have more to come. Classes have been hard to adjust to but I have tried my hardest and put my best foot forward. The main two classes that I feel I am struggling in right now are English 1000 and Math 1090. I feel these are my hardest classes because English is a weak subject for me and coming into college English is a big step for me. I have a big problem with my writing and the way I word my papers therefore English is a weakness of mine. Math is another weakness of mine because when I learn new things and I don’t understand them I don’t usually tend to ask for help and in math you learn something new every day. I was very good at math…

Math has always been difficult for me. I have struggled with how to figure out problems and how I can do my best in math class. I was really worried about my grade in math because I wanted to succeed in all my classes in order to get accepted to my first college choice. I started figuring out the math problems in my head and practicing them at home.I used my calculator and computer to help me to solve my math problems. I soon found out that Math wasn't as difficult as I thought it was because I had learned the steps to solve the equations. No matter how difficult the problems were, I always persevered through them. That is how I learned that no matter how hard something is, with practice and repetition you can achieve your best potential.…

The four most important aspects of my role as a peer tutor would be showing leadership, communication, flexibility and having a positive impact on students. Each of these aspects are important and all contribute to my role as a peer tutor, without any of them I don't think I would perform as well in the classroom. Showing leadership and having a positive impact on others have changed over the course of the semester. At the beginning of the semester my leadership skills weren't as inclined as they currently are. Over the course of the semester, I have gained confidence and demonstrated leadership and initiative while peer tutoring. Also, I saw a change in how students approached me; they are presently more comfortable asking me questions in…

Before attending community college, high school proved to be difficult in a very unexpected way. In my experience, high school failed to present any challenge. I quickly became more interested in things other than schoolwork, which was seemingly repetitive and irrelevant to my goals. Thus, at the start of my Junior year of highschool, I made a critical decision that affected me academically thereafter. Enrolling as a full-time Running Start student at Everett Community College immediately introduced me to a fast-paced learning environment that was more suitable to my goals pertaining to business. Quickly, my grades improved and I became passionate about the things I studied, in both business and nonbusiness courses. However, being a Running…

I have learned much in my 11 years in California public school. I learned to write in cursive; I learned my times tables; I learned the equation for a line, and I learned a thing or two about Shakespeare. However, the most important thing I learned is that is that the Common Core doesn’t work. The Common Core Standards Initiative is an approach to keep all American students on the same page. The problem is that it keeps all of us on page 1. In my AP Calculus BC class, my 13 classmates and I are piloting a Common Core textbook. At first, everyone was excited to try something new, but now we groan at the sight of the textbook. While I passed the AP test for the first year of Calculus, it has been a challenge “reviewing” these concepts in the new style. Why change a system that was proven to be successful? California, one of the last states to implement Common Core, actually made a change for the worse. Therefore, I strongly believe that the 28th amendment to the Constitution should be the nationwide abolishment of Common Core.…

I'm not going to lie, there are some classes where I'm just not as strong in. One of these classes is math, what a surprise. But just because I'm not as strong in this subject, it doesn't mean that I'm bad at it. Actually, for quite a while in high school, I would get straight A's. Even .while taking college level math, I wouldn't get bad grades. However it's not easy. It's always math class that has to give homework during breaks and every single school day. So because of this it takes a lot of my time. Plus, there's just so much to learn and not enough time. It's like other classes, we have a brief explanation and examples and then we're forced to regurgitate what we remember during the test. That's what many classes seem like, just remembering certain things for a brief time period so you won't do as bad on the test. Since there isn't enough time, I always…

The selection of the open enrollment policy for analysis was based on the importance of this policy as it relates to the mission, and financial situation at Champion Schools as well as the emotion associated with it since its adoption in 2005. The primary reason Champion chose to have an open enrollment policy was because Champion was faced with continual revenue loss year after year that showed no signs of improvement. By deciding to adopt an inter-district open enrollment policy Champion would receive the 5,700 dollars that is paid for each student that transfers to the district. Even though this would improve the financial situation it wasn’t an easy decision to make. Champion had an excellent school ranking from the State of Ohio and fears and questions arose around this fact as well as other issues. How would open enrollment have an effect on testing scores and the school state ranking? How would open enrollment have an effect on discipline? These concerns still remain since its adoption as well as others coming from both teachers and parents who live in the district. Teachers express concerns about the bad elements that are coming into the district creating discipline problems and pulling down test scores. Parents in the community complain that open enrollment families are not paying taxes to the school and are not committed as community members. By analyzing this policy and determining what is working and what is not working important recommendations can be made for improvement in this policy for all of the stakeholders at Champion Schools.…

Along with my good experiences in math, there were a couple of them not so great, the ones I wouldn’t want to remember. I was in my 11th grade pre-calculus class when my family decided we were going to India for three weeks to visit my grandparents. As much as I wanted to visit my country, I was afraid I would miss a lot of work at school. Despite of my fright, we went to India in December of 2006. Including Christmas holidays, we were in India for almost three weeks which means I missed a whole week and a half of school work. When I came back I had a tough time in all of my courses including pre-calc. I was trying my best to catch up…

    Reflection (Seminar)

On our subject, Hospice Accommodation, our teacher was telling us about our final project which is conducting a seminar. We are tasked on Housekeeping Department. At first, I thought it was just a piece of cake, but I was wrong, it was the total opposite. It was really difficult to organize a seminar. Most especially if you are a first timer of doing such things. To make it easier, we divided the tasks to our group mates; I was assigned of doing the paper works such as the certificates, program, encoding the letters and a lot more. It was really stressful particularly on finding a speaker. Four hotels rejected our request and the day that was assigned to us to have our seminar was fast approaching. We quite felt hopeless, but our dedication makes us more determined to find a guest speaker. After lots of unwelcoming approach to the past hotels, God is so good because he took us to Crown Hotel and has Mr. Thom Richard Dy as our guest speaker. I thought it will run smoothly since we have already our speaker, but it wasn’t stop there, because we find it hard in terms of approving our certificates to our dean and our chairperson. It took us days after it has been approved by them. There are lots of requirements to be submitted and we are grateful that we accomplished all of that successfully.…
