Arguments Against Censorship In Schools

Many schools in America have banned books in their libraries for the content in certain books. the name behind this idea is called censorship. Books are censord because people feel like it will protect children from certain ideas, improve society, and keeping moral values. Main reason books are censored are for religion, sex, drugs, abuse, social issues, and more. Censorship on books has been a controversal topic for many years. Censorship in schools should not be allowed because it infringes on the first amendment, stops people from learning about social injustices, and censorship can skew the truth.

The main reason censorship is a negative thing is the first amendment. The first amendment gurantees all Americans the right to freedom of speech, religion, press, and to assemble. Banning certain books
With the censorship on books with social injustices such as drug use, abuse, rape, people arent able to learn about the social injustices that happen around the world. Issues like these happen in America and the government can't block them out to try and protect students from the truth because eventually it will come out. It is better to teach students about social injustices instead of blocking them from is so they can become educated in the issue. For example in a book called "Go Ask Alice" is a diary of a teenage girl who struggled with drug abuse, sex, and eventually ends up commiting suicide. The parents of the girl published her diary to raise awarness for these types of issues that teenagers struggle from. They wanted to educate the young and to help other families overcome these issues. The book was censored in many libraries because people felt it was to much for children to read and learn about. Students all over already understand many of these social issues and struggle from it themselves. Censorship only makes the issue worse by banning books that can help children educate
