Animal Testing Controversy

Did you know that without animals being used for testing, we would not be able to use cosmetic items safely? Even is they were safe there would be no way we would know that at anytime out face or body would break out with a rash. There has been a HUGE controversy over testing animals. Honestly I believe that testing animals is the only fool proof way to keep humans safe. Continue to read this to find out why I believe to way I do..

My first reason is testing animals helps put an end to human suffering. According to an article on Controversy of Animal Testing, "It is preferred that animals suffer as opposed to a human, with the aim of reducing human suffering." I agree that without knowing if a cosmetic would be safe would create more human suffering. Without knowing if a chemical could kill you or physically harm you or not would a really bad thing. And think about it if animals weren't our "test dummies" then we could be washing our face with a face cleanser and our skin could just come off, or we could get really sick from chemicals.

Except the AWA excludes birds, rats, and mice bred for research, cold blooded animals, and farm animals used for food purposes." this is because we use those animals to survive. If we didn’t have cows to eat, we wouldn’t have a lot of food. Rats and mice are almost the only animals who are tested. people feed these things to snakes for heavens sake! Many animals are subject to inhumane conditions and procedures in the “name of science”. Animals are used for testing in everything from that trendy matte red lipstick from Covergirl Cosmetics to medical lab testing used to correctly identify the antibody signaling an immune response in lab rats. Animal testing has a vast range of uses with little to no rules identifying the treatment the animal subject to testing is subjected to. Many different brands, especially cosmetic brands, have cruelty-free stickers on their products to let the customer know the product was produced without harm to animals. The United States of America has not limited the use of animal testing yet, however, the European Union has limited animal testing and banned the use of testing on animals on cosmetics and cosmetic ingredients (European…

Animal testing on cosmetics should be banned. People are put in jail all the time for abusing their pets, but people are never put in jail for inhumane testing of cosmetics and other pharmaceuticals on these same animals. I have done a lot of research on animal testing and methods we can use that are more effective and don’t use animals through high school in my free time because of curiosity, so I know a lot of random facts about the harmful nature of this and alternative methods. Animals are being tortured to “help” make better medicine and, the majority of the time does not affect people the same way as animals. Animal testing is inhumane and ineffective the majority of the time, it should be banned.…

Scientists never express their thoughts about testing cosmetics on animals. Nature surveyed a thousand biomedical scientists, over seventy percent of those scientists conduct experiments on animals. About ninety percent of those scientists felt that animal testing is important in scientific improvements but they also said that they are concerned about the well being of the animal. When they test them they try and use little as many animals as they can and they treat them with respect.…

The products we use everyday are a luxury that we are blessed to have and be able to use everyday. But not many people think about all the tests that the product had to go through to get on the store's shelves. Not many people think about the negatives of the product and all the test that are done on ANIMALS. Animals that are tested on are put through medical tests that could potentially kill them or harm them extremely. The beauty product industry and scientist should find a new way to test their products and drugs without the endangerment to animals.…

Nowadays there are many companies that test their products on animals such as makeup and painkillers. Not many people pay attention to this fact, but in actuality they should. Excuses for companies using animals for testing are that they have similarities in their tissues and DNA. Though parts of the human body vs. an animal’s body may have similarities but people must keep in mind that we are two totally different species. Science shows that animals rarely serve as good models for the human body so why would we feel safe with the product anyways. The best thing for us to do is test out products on other humans so then we can get reliable and accurate results. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) stated that 92% of all drugs that are shown to be safe and effective in animal testing fail in human trials; from this information you can see that testing on animals isn't very reliable or safe for our safety and health. Also, it was said in multiple science journals that testing on animals would be a waste of time and life, both human and animal. Testing on animals is dangerous for both species.…

Animal testing is a very controversial practice, involving the testing of new substances on animals to see how safe they will be for human use. (Vasen, 2011) Research has uncovered many cures for deathly diseases through animal testing. For over 2000 years cures for diseases such as Herpes, Hepatitis B, Rabies, Malaria, Polio and other such viruses have been created, through the use of testing the chemicals on animals such as mice, rabbits, cats, dogs or monkeys. (Shandilya, 2011) Animal Testing holds much criticism, and gets much scrutiny from anti Animal-Testing groups such as PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and CAAT (Coalition to Abolish Animal Testing). The controversy behind animal testing is that there are so many petitions against animal testing and some people go as far as to not consume products like toothpaste or…

Animal Experimentation is bad because you're putting all of these chemicals on these poor animals and they can die from this. I think that Animal Experimentation should be illegal everywhere. Animal testing is outdated and cruel. Almost every disease has been researched at some point using animals as models. They might change animal testing and start using a chip. Animal is testing is legal as long as its reasonable. They are not going to be using the chimpanzees to test products on anymore. Animals have probably been involved in experiments for HIV/AIDS, Cancer, Alzheimer's, and etc. Almost every disease have been researched at some point using animals as models. They still test cosmetics on animals in canada because it is legal to test them on animals. You can kill several animals by testing these products on animals. Overall i think they need to stop Animal testing and find a different way to test these…

When cosmetic testing first started a women got injured from the makeup she had been wearing , so instead of them resulting to a more natural and better alternative they turned to animal testing to see how they could improve these products so humans wouldn’t be injured anymore. “After an incident where a woman's personal use of a mascara darkener went awry, leaving her with burning eyes and ultimately - blindness - the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) passed the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act in 1938. Britain similarly conducted animal testing for cosmetics until outlawing all cosmetics related animal testing in 1998.” says Animal Testing Timeline. Those who are in favor of animal testing justify it many different ways. Thomas Hamm, a toxicologist and veterinarian, argues that, “We can’t protect the environment, or people in general, without doing some animal testing. If you’re pro-environment but opposed to animal testing, you’re on shaky ground, because the two positions just aren’t compatible with each other” (Fano, 44). In order to have a safe and successful society, he argues, we must use animals to test chemicals, drugs, treatments, and anything else that will further our knowledge of improving the world, at least for humans. Many people are of the same mind as Hamm. Animal testing reduces the risks of many products, like cosmetics and medication, among many others. Scientists can put safety standards in place for products based on their findings via animal testing. Often, animals will react badly or even die from certain chemicals or combinations, make the humans that use the products…
