Argumentative Essay: Why Students Should Start Later In School?
Many students complain about getting up too early for school. But what if we had a day where we didn’t have to get up early and school started later than usually. I believe that school should start later on Fridays because some students don’t get enough sleep, parents that work might be affected by this change as well, and last but I also understand that we have the weekend to wake up late.

Experts say that students who do not get the correct amount of sleep they need can suffer many negative effects such as, poor grades, obesity, stress, and possibly depression.Another thing that can be hard for students is time management.Students may have sports that they do that they need to practice for which can sometimes take up time for studying.Understanding is probably the biggest problem for some students. If students do not understand something it may take longer for their homework, and there isn’t enough time to study. The time it takes to do homework can clash with sleep time and just regular everyday things people do.These are only some of the reasons that it would be beneficial for students to start school later.

I think that starting the school day later would greatly benefit the students and teachers. if we started school at about say nine thirty in the morning instead of eight thirty or earlier, that would mean that most students wouldn't need to be awake in the morning till almost seven thirty to eight thirty and some kids could even wake up a little later then that depending on where they live. granite it is proven that high school students only need six to eight hours of sleep each night but there is always that few that never get the six to eight hours of sleep.…

While some believe changing the start time would fail to have an effect on anything (or even have negative consequences), others argue that students could have multiple benefits to a later start time. There are many health benefits for a later start time. "Less than one third of U.S. students, however, are sleeping at least 8 hours on school nights and four hours out of five middle and high schools start their day before 8:30 a.m. A consensus has emerged among health experts that this is simply too early," (neatoday.org). This evidence proves that the school start times can change the health of students. "Drowsy driving increases for our newest drivers. Teens released in the early afternoon (sometimes well before 2 p.m!) have hours of unsupervised time until the typical adult work day ends. One reason school start times should be later than they are now is because junior high and high school students are “programmed” to stay up late and sleep in. During teenage years, students bodies are designed to stay up later and sleep in. Both When Sleep Becomes A Nightmare, an article written by Scholastic, and the National Sleep Foundation website agree with just that! Nancy Shute, an award-winning science journalist, stated on npr.com “...it’s difficult, if not impossible, for them to fall asleep before 10:30.” If students fall asleep at 10:30 pm and get the recommended amount of rest, which is 9 ½ hours, students should not wake up until 7:00 am. Some schools have already started class at this…
