Argumentative Essay: What Is The Black Table?
What is the “Black Table”? The “Black Table” is a table that is a spot for only black students. This was placed when the schools began to “integrate”. Near the time of the Civil Rights Movement. A man named Graham had been in school when they placed this table in the cafeteria. He returned a few years after he left the school and still sees the “Black Table”. To him this is a serious problem, and I completely agree with him. One of the reasons that this is a serious problem because it will make colored students inferior to others. Some blacks have white student as their friends, and this table shows that blacks are still under others and the whites are above all. Almost like a caste system for races.     Howard University is a private school that was founded/ created in 1867. 7,147 people haven’t graduated from there. It is in Washington D.C. This is in Virginia. This school has 33% male and 67% female. I think this is very impressive because, since I am a girl, this is a very great thing. It shows that women are taking more responsibility in their lives. At first I thought Black Colleges would be bad because they have a separate college for black people and usually black people are discriminated. I thought it would be a cheap little ugly place, but they are very impressive. This essay, allowed me to actually stop and appreciate what is right in front of me. It allowed me to see that black colleges and universities are like other colleges and even better. It doesn’t matter the race of the school, it just matters what you are learning. I think that this report really helped clear my mind of all those stupid racial things my teachers say. I just noticed that you never hear about black colleges. I think that is soo stupid. It shows again that they are trying to say that black people are less important than white people. They are saying white colleges are better than black colleges, but that’s wrong. What is weird is that Howard University has 60.9 % of its classes with fewer than 20 students. Most colleges I would think have a lot more students in a class room. But that is a good thing, because more students get one on one attention. Black colleges seem much more teachy. It seems like they are more into education. Another good thing about Howard is that they have a very diverse student body. The student body office has people with different cultures, races, and genders. This is promoting the idea of equality.
