Argumentative Essay On Why Dogs Are Better Than Cats
I have decided to address one of the most controversial topics. Are dogs better than cats? This topic has been highly deliberated by both dog and cat lovers. I am arguing that dogs are better than cats. Dogs are better than cats because dogs can lead to people having more social interactions, a dog’s sense of smell can be life-saving, and dogs can prevent allergies.
Dogs help people to have more social interactions. Scientific studies show that dogs enhance feelings, two studies were conducted to show the robustness of this enhancement. The two tests concluded that a person walking down a street with a dog was more likely to strike up a conversation with another person due to the dog being social. This is compared to people who are cat people who just tend to ogle at other people walking down the street instead of talking to them. Dogs also can smell very well.
A dog’s sense of smell can save the lives of people. They can track missing persons. They can also sniff out bombs and drugs. New studies have also shown that dogs can sniff out certain cancers. Scientists discovered that a dog

The dust contains bacteria that can affect the human's airway to target certain allergens. They did an experiment on mice where a group of mice was exposed to dogs while the other group was not. Afterwards, the researchers put both groups of mice in allergy-inducing conditions. The group that was exposed to dogs proved to have less of an allergy attack that the ones who were not exposed to dogs. On the contrary, cats actually cause allergies for certain people. This group of people who are allergic to cats includes me. From first-hand experience being allergic to cats is terrible. They are not healthy to be around most of the time. Cats cause me to break out in itchy blisters on my fingers that do not go down unless I use medicine. Dogs do not me break out and that goes for a lot of other

“Wolves are the dogs that stayed behind.” The world is a cruel place. A thing that can be treasured in one instance can be a threat in the next. For many people, we stare at the natural world and see its rugged beauty and wish that we could captivate it for ourselves. The case is no different for our modern dogs. Bred from the “empty canvas” of a wolf, we’ve modified, altered, formed, transformed, reformed, and remodified wolves to be one of the closest companions we have still today: dogs. But through all of our perfecting and reshaping that we’ve done to our best friends’ closest ancestors, wolves have prevailed, echoing their famous legacy still throughout the world. Wolves, now in danger of extinction, are one of the greatest controversies…

Science and studies have shown that use of scent training in dogs has worked and is proven effective. Scenting and alert dogs have been used in various fields, from drug scenting to search and rescue. Research has proven that canines are capable to work side-by-side with their handlers to get the job done. According to Wells, Lawson, and Siriwardena (2008) “canines are able to detect the biochemical hormone which is released when an individual’s blood glucose level is fluctuating” (p. 1236). High and Low glucose levels release a unique and distinct odor. As explained by Dan Warren of Warren Retrievers and Guardian Angel Service Dogs, an acetone like scent is an indicator of low glucose levels while a sweet or fruity odor is associated with a high glucose level. Scenting Dogs are trained to alert to these odors using consistent training and positive reinforcement (personal communication October 6, 2011). Canines have a superior and innate sense of smell. In his natural…

The whole concept of a hearing dog started in Minnesota in the 1970’s when a hard of hearing woman by the name of Mrs. Elva Janke had a dog that passed away. This wasn’t just any dog though, this dog would alert her to household things such as the doorbell ringing or the microwave beeping. When the dog passed away though, Mrs, Janke realized just how much she had been relying on her dog to help her with everyday life, she didn’t know what to do without it. Thus, she set out to find out if there was a trainer that could train a dog to alert her the way her previous dog had naturally come to do. Thankfully Agnes mcGrath was able to do the job of not only training Janke’s dog, but the first 6 hearing dogs with the financial support from the government.…

Who would ever in their right mind want a cat as a pet? Cats are the most conniving animals alive and no one should even think to keep them as a pet. There are some people who have a large number of cats in their house at one time and continue adding to the number and that is just ridiculous. Cats can carry around a foul smell or odor and shed their hair which gets everywhere it should not be. There is also a lot of money that can be involved with investing in supplies, health and food for a cat. If anyone has a cat for a pet they should be ready to take full responsibility of the cat and all of the downfalls…

Gardner demonstrates the issue of pet allergies and infants that babies who live with dogs and cats have smaller chance to develop pets allergies than babies who is housed in household without cats and dogs because the toddlers’ immune system has been used earlier since they were young; however, being close to those animals after one year old may not have any effect. Initially, a dog’s sense of smell has been proven to be over one hundred times better as opposed to the scent of smell a human may have. Inclusively they can detect a certain smell up to 40 feet underground. A dog’s sense of smell is powerful enough to be able to smell a scent which no human could ever smell as our sense of smell is not as strong as theirs. For instance within Texas there was a case in which Calvin Lee Miller was accused of a sexual assault and robbery. Upon receiving the notification Deputy Keith Pikett then used his bloodhounds to confirm that the scent on the sheets which belonged to Pikett was…
