Argumentative Essay On Trayvon Martin
On the night of February 28, 2012 Trayvon Martin was walking through a neighborhood from a convenience store. He was carrying an Arizona tea and a pack of skittles. This neighborhood had been having someone invading their homes. George Zimmerman saw him walking and called the police. They told him not to follow the suspicious person and officers were on their way. He didn’t listen and got out of his car. Him and Martin got into an argument. During the argument, Trayvon was fatally shot by Zimmerman.
The court filed Zimmerman as not guilty. He never denied shooting the teen, but he said he was defending himself. I don’t think it was self defense. He didn’t shoot him because he had to, he shot him because he wanted to. I believe Zimmerman should have been charged with manslaughter. Would you kill a stray pet if it came into your yard? Most people wouldn’t. Trayvon Martin could have simply been a man just taking a shortcut home. Martin was just walking through the neighborhood. Zimmerman assumed he was a thug or one of the people breaking into the homes. Zimmerman got out of his car assuming that Trayvon wasn’t supposed to be there or that he could not possibly live there or close by. He saw the black teenager and automatically thought that he was up to no good and that he was a thug. All he had to do was mind his business and carry on with what he was doing. Zimmerman's story of what happened the night of the shooting was only part of the what happened. Trayvon is not alive to tell his story of what happened. Things might have happened differently if he was still alive. Zimmerman was the only living person who witnessed the entire incident. There wasn't much physical evidence for either team to fall back

    Trayvon Martin’s murder occurred around 7:25 PM of February 26, 2012 on his way home from a convenience store. (CNN Wire staff, 2012) On site, Zimmerman called police to report a suspicious person. The police made a point to tell Zimmerman that following him was no necessary. Record show that, around the time, Martin had been on the phone with his girl friend who heard the beginning of the confrontation. She told reporters that Martin seemed terrified because the man was following him, that he had even asked the man why he was doing so before the conversation abruptly ended. (ABC News, 2012) Zimmerman’s statement claims that Trayvon Martin attacked him, punched him in the face and beat him. (CNN Wire staff, 2012) Neighbors started calling in to report screaming and gunshots; later, audio experts reported to CNN that the cry for help was not Zimmerman, but actually young Trayvon Martin. (CNN Wire staff, 2012) When on the scene, police found Zimmerman with a broken nose and a cut on the back of his head, suggesting that Martin did, in fact, attack Zimmerman.
