The level of work they do is looked upon by others as a mere form of caring and showing compassion to a patient even though many home health care providers do some jobs similar to what would be performed in a nursing home, rehabilitation center, or hospital. The fact that home health workers provide services similar to those in other areas of health care suggests that these workers deserve a higher pay grade than they currently receive. The low wages do not only affect the workers; they impact the type and quality of care that the patient experiences. In her article titled When Will We Stop Exploiting Home-Care Workers?, Sarah Jaffe states, “research has found repeatedly that better wages and job security produce better, not worse, care.” Higher wages lead to better care and more workers to perform that care.
