Argumentative Essay On Friends Research Paper
Friends, created by David Crane and Marta Kauffman was an American sitcom, which, originally aired on NBC in September 1994 and ran through May 2004, lasting a total of ten seasons. Bright/Kauffman/Crane Productions produced the series, in association with Warner Bros. Television. Friends followed the lives of six friends living in New York City and their triumphs, romances, family troubles, and successes. The series allowed for viewers to feel as though they were a part of the friend group and join a bond with the characters. The cast included Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer. Unfortunately I was not alive when Friends first aired and I was too young to really understand the concept of the show as I sat on the couch with my older brother watching the episodes premier. The summer before junior year of high school I decided it was time to watch the series and see for myself what all the hype was about. I opened my computer, logged onto Netflix, started season one, episode one and would then watch at least five episodes a day. Although Friends was popular …show more content…
The series debuted as one of NBC’s Thursday “must-see TV” shows along with Seinfeld and Frasier. The network created the term “must-see TV” to brand its prime time blocks. NBC featured its most popular sitcoms and dramas to dominate the Thursday night ratings in the 1980s and 1990s. When the final episode aired in 2004, “52.5 million Americans tuned in.” (Chowdhry, 2015) Friends, primarily viewed by young adults, 18-34 year olds who related to the characters who were trying to maneuver life in New York City. The series addressed topics that were relatable to all kinds of people, and although viewers may not have experienced a miscarriage or given birth to our brother’s triplets, viewers were able to connect to the elements of these
