Modifications to companion animals is both a very popular and very controversial topic in the animal owner and animal lover community. Animal modification, or ‘utility surgeries’ (Dol, 1999), are defined as a type of “physical interference that may take place with the purpose of adapting the animal to the owner’s wishes” (Dol, 1999). In many regions across the world, pet owners and activists are working towards laws that prevent these procedures from being performed. Some critics claim that certain modifications, like ear cropping (a surgical method where a portion of a dog’s ear is cut off), are in favor of the animal’s health and well-being, while others disagree with this belief. Those who are against the tempering of animals by ear cropping,…

Though out many years, movies and television shows such as Star Wars, Star Trek, and many others have enlightened our imagination on cloning organisms. Today, it appears that this idea that looked unreachable, now seems to be within our grasp due to our technological leap in genomic science. But we are not interested in just regular cloning, we want to reach for the stars and successfully be able to produce copies of not just other animals, but humans as well. This turns to the new scientific phenomenon that is reproductive cloning. Cloning is a form of asexual reproduction that makes identical genomic copies of the original animal either by producing specific cells or tissue, where reproductive cloning has the ability to clone the entire animal that is produced by a single cell. This process differs drastically from original sexual reproduction. Normal sexual reproduction occurs when a sperm that contains one set of chromosomes (23) reaches and fertilizes with an egg with another set of…

The idea of mandatory human chip implants is wrong on so many different levels. Not only is there a major concern about how it will affect the privacy of society, but also how much we don’t know about the adverse effects on the actual human body. Another major concern is the public backlash that can be expected from all religious bodies and communities. This is why we as a society must stand up for what we believe is right, and what is right is that mandatory human chip implants cannot and will not be tolerated.…

    Never Wax Your Hoo-Ha

All hair removal methods have tricked women with their promises of easy, painless removal - The Epilady, scissors, razors, Nair and now...the wax. Read on...........
My night began as any other normal weeknight. Fix dinner, watch the grand kids come and go.

I then had the thought that would ring painfully in my mind for the next few hours: 'Maybe I should get the waxing kit from the medicine cabinet.

So I headed to the site of my demise: the bathroom.

It was one of those 'cold wax' kits. No melting a clump of hot wax, you just rub the strips together in your hand, they get warm and you peel them apart and press them to your leg (or wherever else) and you pull the hair right off. No muss, no fuss. How hard can it be?

I mean, I'm not a genius, but I am mechanically inclined enough to figure this out. (YA THINK!?!)
So I pull one of the thin strips out. Its two strips facing each other stuck together.

Instead of rubbing them together, my genius kicks in so I get out the hair dryer and heat it to 1000 degrees. ('Cold wax,' yeah...right!)

I lay the strip across my thigh. Hold the skin around it tight and pull.

It works!

OK, so it wasn't the best feeling, but it wasn't too bad. I can do this! Hair removal no longer eludes me!

I am She-rah, fighter of all wayward body hair and maker of smooth skin extraordinaire.

With my next wax strip I move north. After checking on the family, I sneak back into the bathroom for the ultimate hair fighting championship.

I drop my granny panties and place one foot on the toilet..

Using the same procedure, I apply the wax strip across the right side of my bikini line, covering the right half of my hoo-ha and stretching down to the inside of my butt cheek (it was a long strip).

I inhale deeply and brace myself.... RRRRIIIPPP!!!!

I'm blind!!! Blinded from pain!!!!..... OH MY GAWD!!!!!!!!!
Vision returning, I notice that I've only managed to pull off half the strip.

CRAP!

Another deep breath and RIPP! Everything is spinning and…

“Are we Playing God?”, do we have the right to manipulate people’s genes? These are some of the ethical questions raised by Christians. They believe that humans exist in God’s world and have no right to change it (“Moral”). People also argue that the human genome was given to you from birth and that it was generated by God. If we begin changing genes then it brings us back to ‘“playing God’”. Although these are popular questions that are asked about gene therapy, the most popular one and simple one is the safety of gene therapy. Although gene therapy has vastly improved there is still a possibility for error. The most fearful part is that the therapy works with your genes and chromosomes and people are afraid that instead of treating the genes, the doctors could…
