Earlier that night, Burke and Jonbenet Ramsey were eating their favorite snack, pineapple and yogurt. Quarreling over Jonbenet stealing a piece of his late night treat, nine-year-old Burke took it out of hand and threw a flashlight at her head. The blow to the head knocked her unconscious, making him believe she was dead. Panicking, Burke called out to his parents to reveal what he had done. He waved boisterously--his trademark--throwing both arms in the air in a full-bodied, hip-hop Y. When he got no response, he and his friends sauntered down the walk to join a group loitering in front of an apartment building. The car followed. The driver got out, brandished a revolver and fired into the air. Everyone scattered. Then he took aim and shot my running nephew in the back. Johnny never lost consciousness. He lay in the road, trying to understand what had happened to him, why he couldn't get up. Emotionlessly, he told the story again and again on demand, remaining apologetically firm against all demands to divulge the missing details that would make sense of the shooting but bad light. Being black, male and shot, he must, apparently, be gang- or drug-involved. Probably both. Witnesses corroborate his version of…

Emmett Till was a 14 year old colored boy from Chicago, IL. He lived there with his mother who grew up in Mississippi, a very segregated state. His father was not around much because he was in the service, but he left his mother a ring that had his initials engraved into it. One of Emmett's family members who still lived in Mississippi wanted Emmett to come stay with him for a little bit. Emmett's mother was nervous because she knew of the segregated ways of the south, nothing like Chicago. She warned him of what happens down there and he felt she was over exaggerating so he didn't pay too much attention.…

Thoughts surrounding the JFK assassination are interesting and controversial. Conventional wisdom dictates that a single shooter, Lee Harvey Oswald, shot and killed President Kennedy in Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963. However, there is evidence to support that there were multiple shooters and Lee Harvey Oswald was not in the position to shoot the bullets everyone said he did, and many people truly believe that to be so. It is simple to dismiss such conspiracy theory as imaginative fiction, but many people have done research to prove that the single shooter did not kill President Kennedy alone. I believe that someone with more power than Oswald carried out this assassination and framed Oswald, and will use research to support this claim.…

At 9'o clock at night, a fight broke out and 5 colonists were killed. The Boston Sons of Liberty called the event the Boston Massacre. The O.J. Simpson trial was one of the most recognizable cases in American History. It went on for 9 months. At 12:10 am on June 13, 1994, Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman were found murdered right outside of Bundy drive condo in Brentwood. Evidence found in the scene led the Police to suspect that O.J. Simpson was the murderer. Although the prosecution pointed to the evidence of the case Simpson lawyers argued that the police bungle the investigation and planted evidence. An examination of the case is that one of the policemen was racist and planted evidence in the scene to accuse O.J. Simpson of being the murderer.…

The United States has the highest rate of civilian gun ownership in the world. That also comes with having the most mass shootings even rivaling war-torn countries. In 2015 only there has been more than three hundred plus mass shootings. With more shootings happening a lot more frequently, it is apparent that not nearly enough background checks into gun owners are being run. Three-quarters of people either own two or more. But what should be done about those who are attempted buyers that are turned away? Implemented in 1998 and Created under the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act, the National Instant Criminal Background Check System allows licensed gun sellers to check with the Federal Bureau of Intelligence, as required by the law, before a sale is made. While background checks have prevented tens of thousands of unlawful gun sales each year, opponents have said that the government doesn’t prosecute enough of the attempted buyers (‘‘The Case against Gun Background Checks’’, Good). More than 76,000 denials for gun purchases in 2010. 62 people were referred for prosecution and only thirteen of said prosecutions resulted in verdicts or guilty pleas. Some feel like there are already enough gun laws and that there…
