This might surprise you, but gunpowder was an accident. Accent scientist were working on a elixir that would make anyone immortal. The accent scientist just put random substances together, but when the substance was exposed to open flame it exploded.

Over the years they they expanded the potential for the substance. They gave it the name Gunpowder, over the years the made into weapons, entertainment, and even to take pictures. There are so many ways to use gunpowder that can be benefit to everyone.

Unfortunately for the people of West Africa, they hadn't heard about gunpowder yet when European people attacked them in the 1400s AD, which is one reason the Europeans were able to defeat them.
