Although there are many possibilities of what could have killed Ӧtzi the Iceman, the most likely was an arrow. It was discovered that he was shot in the back with an arrow, the shot ripping apart a main artery that lead to his left arm. This is proved to be correct because a mark in the back was found. It was later discovered that the mark was actually the never healed wound that showed the arrow’s entry to the body. It is not known why he was shot, but two theories are that he was a shepherd who was migrating with his flocks up the mountain or a religious/main leader who was leading his community up the mountain.
