Argumentative Essay: Cody Vs. Squatch
Cody vs. Squatch

“I’m never betting on Kentucky again!” Cody said as he trudged through the mud. He had just lost a wager that Kentucky would win the college basketball national championship, and now his friend Tyus, whom he had bet, was making him camp out in the woods for a whole weekend without modern technology. Cody had never camped before, so he didn’t know what to expect, but so far, the muddy ground had ruined his brand new basketball shoes. After walking for what seemed like miles, Cody finally found a clearing in the brush, and decided to set up camp. First, he tried to set up the tent. It took two hours, and when he finally crawled inside, the tent collapsed right on top of him. He gave up, instead attempting to start a

“That hurts!” He was about to pick up his first burger with his charred hands when he heard a loud howl come from the nearby bushes. “Wait a minute that sounds like…” He never got to finish his sentence as a 7-foot monstrous Sasquatch emerged from the shadows and charged at Cody. Cody jumped up and sprinted for cover. When he turned around, he saw the Squatch eating his burgers. Cody became very angry with how much pain he had put into cooking those burgers, and he charged and the monster. The squatch looked up from his food, narrowed his eyes and the approaching human, and ran at Cody. Both monster and man collided and the fight was on! The flicker of firelight reflected the shadows of the two fighters against the many trees surrounding them. Cody had been in wrestling in middle school, so he knew a few moves. The Squatch seemed surprisingly light as Cody attempted a cross-faced cradle, but the beast growled and pinned Cody on his back. Instead of finishing Cody off, the Squatch threw Cody at the collapsed tent. Cody crashed into the canopy which stored his supplies. Cody suddenly remembered; he had brought along weapons! His weapons bag contained a grade-A hunting knife, a hunting bow, a police-issued weapon belt complete with pepper spray and even fully loaded pistol. Finally, the granddaddy of them all, a .22 caliber shotgun. “Dad keeps some pretty cool stuff up here” Cody thought when he was searching the forbidden attic before he left. It was a good thing he had been able to sneak his father’s weapon collection out the door. He knew immediately what he would use. He grabbed his most prized possession to defend himself; his official Kentucky Wildcats basketball? “If I shoot this at the Squatch like the Kentucky players, I’ll hit it right on the head.” So, Cody shot the ball exactly how he remembered the star players shooting it…and the ball went way over the Sasquatch’s head.

She jumped on top of one of the coyotes and bit its shoulder. The coyote shook her off growling, Blaze ran up and started to fight it again, not realizing how close she was to the edge. The coyote let out a whimper as it slipped off the edge and fell into the black pit below. Blaze’s brother Fire let out a yell of triumph as the coyotes started to back away. Only to realize that more coyotes started to come. Blaze let out a yelp of fear as she realized that the foxes were losing. Blaze’s group leader, Moonfire, was fighting three coyotes at once, they were slowly driving him off the edge. Blaze ran toward him and knocked off one of them off the cliff. The first hour and a half we listened to the birds and watched the squirrels eat away at the trail mix. The sight of this made me hungry so I got out my peanut butter sandwich and red Gatorade. Around 4:45, I was lightly sleeping when I heard a loud snap from a few hundred yards away. My mind began racing as I tried to figure out what could have made that noise. Every couple minutes I could hear another branch break and it was getting closer and closer. An hour later the noise had moved from a few hundred yards in front of us to less than 30 yards behind us. “Don’t move” my dad whispered. We could hear leaves crunching under the feet of whatever was behind us. The noise continued onto the path that leads right to the bait pile. I slowly turned my head to the left and saw a 325-pound bear with a furry, black coat. Instantly my breathing became heavy, my whole body was shaking and my heart was about to pound out of my chest. I grabbed by gun and raised it to my shoulder, almost dropping it from all my shaking. I rested my Remington pump shotgun on the chilly aluminum edge of the Rivers Edge tree stand. “Click” I took the safety off of my shotgun and looked down the iron sights. The bear was licking the frosting on top of the white cedar log. BANG! The bear spun and took off into the thick green underbrush and fell after 20 yards. I couldn’t believe it; I was so excited. My dad and I waited 30 minutes and then we got down from the tree stand and followed the trail to where the bear was laying. I reached down and touched the smooth, plush coat of the bear, thanking it for the meat it would provide for my…

The Frontier Post, an English newspaper mostly based in the Middle East, released a particularly powerful advertisement in 2013 to promote safe driving. At first glance, it would appear that the advertisement is a picture of a firearm, front and center, placed in the spotlight of an otherwise gloomy backdrop. In reality, the advertisement depicts a set of car keys, cleverly arranged to resemble a revolver. Underneath the gun lies a very somber message, “Takes one life every 25 seconds, Drive Safe”. The bottom right corner displays the organization’s information, and the bottom left corner offers a citation for the hair raising statistic. One could quickly deduce that the Frontier Post was targeting people’s susceptibility to fear with this ad. The advertisement uses fear in order to evoke emotional responses to successfully fulfil its purpose.…

Fortunately it was a foggy morning, and within half an hour the two were out of sight of camp and herd. As Pink had outlined the plans, everything was understood. We were encamped on a nice stream, and instead of trailing along with the herd, lay over for that day. Night came and our hunters failed to return, and the next morning we trailed forward towards the Arkansas River. Just as we went into camp at noon, two horsemen loomed up in sight coming down the trail from above. Every rascal of us knew who they were, and when the two rode up, Pink grew very angry and demanded to know why we had failed to reach the river the day…

As the United States population grew and whites continued to seize land from the American Indians, these Indians had to either adapt to these whites’ way of life or be isolated from all their traditional ways of living and be left to fend for themselves. In the nineteenth century, many commentators believed that these American Indians would find difficulty with modernization and adaptation. While this belief proved to be false, there are many sources that could possibly argue in favor of these commentators’ arguments. As more immigrants infiltrated the United States from Europe, there came an increased support for education in an attempt to establish cultural values that were shared by the majority of citizens. Americanization policies stated…

My family and I have been living in Glendive, Montana from last 10 years. Glendive town is the ranching and agricultural hub of eastern Montana, but my city has now become a radioactive waste disposal site for North Dakota. In order to extract oil and gases, companies have to drill the earth. Along with Oil and gas, they also get unwanted material, such as radioactive sludge, water, rocks, etc. All the extra material is something they did not drill for and it is something that is hard to get rid of as well. It can’t be buried back on the site, nor they are allowed to dispose it anywhere else in North Dakota.…

On one hot sunny morning, the Indians are peacefully sleeping inside of their huts safe and sound, only to be awaken by ruckus and shifting going on about in their camp. Stepping out of their huts, everyone is confused and looking around frightened, as they see the objects they use everyday being tossed around like Frisbees. “Oh my gosh! Everyone look! It is the Coyote that is rearranging our tribe in this terrible manner!” one of the Indians scream. “ He is back! He has returned! Coyote has returned!” someone else yells. Ten minutes pass, and Coyote is still throwing firewood, hunting gear, and a number of other things around. Once everyone has gathered around what is left of their fire from the night before, Coyote begins to speak. He tells everyone that he is back to stay, and that he has decided to make some changes. He starts with moving some Indian huts to the other side of the river, allowing some to float on the river, and combining some together, to…
