Argument Analysis: The Death Cafe

The death cafe I held took place on March 11th 2017 over Facebook messenger. I decided to do it over Facebook messenger for the convenience of everyone since they all had different schedules. The participants were: My sister Ana, who is 23; her boyfriend Bobby, who is 20; Sunny, who is 16; Queeny who is 13; Tameisha, who is 19; Erika, who is 20; Maddie, who is 20; Mark, who is 19; and Joshua, who is 19. Most of us are Christians, with the exception of Bobby, Sunny, and Queeny who are Atheist. I decided to have a big age range because opinions do differ a lot based on a person’s age and I was trying to observe the difference in the opinions of the younger participants compared to the older participants. The next topic I had was the death sentence and whether or not it should happen. Bobby said that people should get what they give and he is all for it. Erika said that we shouldn’t be reinforcing death as a solution for everything, to which Joshua, Tameisha, and Maddie agreed. Ana continued the discussion and asked what about the justice for the victim’s family. She agreed with what Erika said, but she also believes that death of the killer would give peace and justice for them families. The final question I asked was are you scared of death. Queeny finally spoke up and said she is scared to die. Mark brought up a good point which was it depends on the way you die. If it’s natural then no but if it’s unnatural, like being killed or drowning, then yes. After running this death cafe I noticed a major difference in optimism of the two groups. It made me theorize that one’s opinion of death is formed on how they live their
