Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías (born 28 July 1954) is the current President of Venezuela, having held that position since 1999. He was formerly the leader of the Fifth Republic Movement political party from its foundation in 1997 until 2007, when he became the leader of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV). Following his own political ideology of Bolivarianism and "Socialism for the 21st Century", he has focused on implementing socialist reforms in the country as a part of a social project known as the Bolivarian Revolution, which has seen the implementation of a new constitution, participatory democratic councils, the nationalisation of several key industries, increased government funding of health care and education, and significant reductions in poverty, according to government figures.…

    Augusto Pinochet

The case studies that I chose to analyze is Burma's failed attempt for democracy and Chile's hard fought victory for democracy and resignation of Augusto Pinochet. My reasoning for selecting these two cases, is due to the history of violence that these two nations have undergone. The only difference in my investigation is that one was successful going against the opposition while the other failed at its attempt. In the late 1980's the reign of Augusto Pinochet culminated with the rise of Patricio Aylwin as the new Chilean democratic president and vanquished the old dictatorship that abused of human rights with support from mass mobilization and loyalty shifts.…

    The American President

When I think of which characteristics that makes a good president I expect that person to be honest, trustworthy and confident. The President is our country’s leader. A leader needs to be trusted and be known to live their life with honestly and integrity. A good leader is confident. In order to lead and set the direction of our country the president needs to appear confident as a person and in the leadership role. Each and every American president is looked at differently by people. Of the presidents that I have studied so far I think that Presidents Washington, Jackson and Lincoln have shown that they were honest, trustworthy and confident in their abilities. President Washington was so highly trusted as a leader and citizen that he turned down a bid by some of his officers to be named king. Instead, he was very aware that his actions as President would set precedents for the future of the office and he carefully considered every step he took. When General Washington was suffering year after year of humiliating defeats before going on to final victory he paid his troops out of his own pocket to keep them from going home. Washington earned the unlimited confidence of those early citizens of the United States. President Jackson once said, "Every good citizen makes his county's honor his own, and cherishes it not only as precious but sacred. He is willing to risk his life in its defense and it’s conscious that he gains protections while he gives it." This quote by Andrew Jackson reflects his views as a president, military leader, and American citizen. President Lincoln was most certainly known for his honesty. He is regarded by many Americans as the greatest president to ever hold office in the history of the United States, and his reputation is definitely well deserved. Lincoln wasn't scared to stand up and fight for what he knew was right. He was able to lead our country and preserve the Union, keeping the United States from…

Alberto Fujimori is currently Peru's president. As you might think from the way in which his name sounds is in fact from Japan but resides in Peru and has been there for much of his life. There isno available information on much of his life or who his parents were but he is one of the only people who I know of that is from Peru and who is close to a historical figure. As of right now there is an election going on for another persident of Peru and one of the improtant figures in the running is Valenin Paniagua. Paniagua is a respected politician who is currently trying to fill the seat that Fujimori is in right now. Since things are going rather rough for Mr.Fujimori it looks like paniagua has a significant chance to fill his seat in the near future. Fujimori is facing mountin impeachmentcharges from the corruption charges that are piling up against him and his resiignation will be seen as an attempt to escape those impeachment charges. Peru's emergence as a true democracy depends on rooting out the despotism and corruption that have characterized the past fice years of the Fujimori Regime. For this reason, Japan should not grant Mr. Fujimori asylum. It maybe sometime before Peru has a legitimate governemnt, which can seek the extradition of Mr. Fujimori, if, as Washington has reported, he intends to stay in Japan indefinitely. Mr. Fujimorei left the presidential palace in the middle of the night with an enormous amount of baggage. He left the government in disarray, whi no clear successor. Which hopefully is where valentin Paniagua will shin the most. Coming to his countries rescue in it's time of…

Ernesto Guevara de la Serna (1928-1967) was an Argentine physician and revolutionary who played a key role in the Cuban Revolution. He also served in the government of Cuba after the communist takeover before leaving Cuba to try and stir up rebellions in Africa and South America. He was captured and executed by Bolivian security forces in 1967. Today, he is considered by many to be a symbol of rebellion and idealism, while others see him as a murderer. Ernesto was born into a middle class family in Rosario, Argentina. His family was somewhat aristocratic and could trace their lineage to the early days of Argentine settlement. The family moved around a great deal while Ernesto was young. He developed severe asthma early in life: the attacks were so bad that witnesses were occasionally scared for his life. He was determined to overcome his ailment, however, and was very active in his youth, playing rugby, swimming and doing other physical activities. He also received an excellent education.…
