Are Electric Cars Good For Our Environment
Are electric vehicles really good for our environment? An electric vehicle is a vehicle that runs on renewable resources instead of gasoline. In the early 1800’s, innovators in the United States, Netherlands, and Hungary began to experiment with the concept of a battery powered vehicle and created some of the first small-scale electric cars. Electric cars grew popular in the 1900’s because it didn’t have any issues with gasoline, it didn’t produce any smelly pollutants, and it was easy to drive. Yes, electric vehicles are good for our environment. Electric vehicles are better for the environment, saves money and oil, are low maintenance, and are also better for our health. Energy.gov states, “Thomas Edison, one of the world’s most prolific inventors, thought electric vehicles were the superior technology and worked to build a better electric vehicle battery.” Non-electric vehicle drivers do not have these benefits and will harm their environment. Electric …show more content…
Electric vehicles do not use fossil fuels. Instead, they use renewable resources such as wind and solar power that do not harm the environment. A gasoline powered car would need a lot of maintenance. Gasoline powered cars will need smog checks, frequent oil changes, filter replacements, exhaust system repairs, and much more maintenance. Electric Cars will not need as much maintenance as gasoline vehicles. Ergon.com states, “ A battery electric vehicle (BEV) has a lot less moving parts than a conventional petrol/diesel car. There are relatively little servicing and no expensive exhaust systems, starter motors, fuel injection systems, radiators and many other parts that aren’t needed in an EV.” This means there will be fewer issues with the car parts and it will be easier to maintain. Even though the batteries will eventually be needed to be replaced, according to ergon.com, most car manufacturers warrant electric vehicle batteries for around 8

Information (sub-point): One of the major disadvantages was the price. Generally, electric cars were significantly more expensive than their gasoline counterparts. For example, a General Motors EV1 from the late 90’s cost about $34,000 (Quiroga, 2009). With inflation adjustment, this would amount to around $52,000 today. Compared to the average cost of a vehicle from 1997 which is $16,900, that was a lot more money (“What Happened…

Today our lives are thought to be in danger due to global warming. Global warming is defined as a gradual increase in the overall temperature of the earth's atmosphere caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons, and other pollutants. Thought to be a big contribution to global warming are the emissions that come from the exhaust of our cars. Electric vehicles do not have tailpipes that exhaust fumes to pollute so they are the logically thought of the cleaner form of transportation. Imagine if everyone suddenly had electric vehicles, would we be able to provide enough energy to power them all? If not how much more do we need to make it possible and will the way we produce the energy pollute just as much as the fossil fueled vehicles they replaced?…

(TS)Pollution, global warming, and the price of fuel pose real problems for an auto industry churning out gas vehicles, however, electric vehicles offer hope for the future. (PS)Most electric vehicles look and perform just like a gas vehicle.(SS) For example, the electric-powered Dodge Circuit EV resembles the gas-powered Dodge Challenger.(SS) Both sport the bold look of a muscle car, And both have all the standard features such as power windows and doors, gps, air conditioning, and heating.(SS)They even perform similarly; both go from 0 to 60 mph in 6 seconds and perform the ¼ mile in 15.5 seconds.(PS)Electric and gas vehicles tie comes to an end coast and convenience are much better on the electric side then the opposing gas guzzling side. (SS)For example, the lithium-ion battery of the Circuit EV uses far less energy than the gas guzzling V8 engine used by the Challenger. (SS)The Circuit EV can go 150 to 200 miles between charges and costs about $6 to $12 a week in electricity; in contrast, the Challenger averages 14 miles per gallon in the city and 22 on the highway Plus, based on the price of oil, gasoline can cost as much as $5 a gallon, and those dollars add up with the miles. (PS)The final difference is convenience. (SS) Many people and much energy must be used to refuel a gas vehicle Oil has to be refined into gasoline, stored, transported, and pumped. (SS) However, to recharge an electric vehicle, all one has to do is plug it into a standard household outlet or a socket on a charging station.(CS)Gas and electric automobiles perform similar ,however, electric is cheaper and more reliable making it the car of the future.…

Cars have benefited us in so many ways, but what is the downfall to cars? One answer is gasoline which has a negative impact on the environment. It pollutes the air, invades the water, and when too much is inhaled can cause lung cancer. It is also a nonrenewable resource, what happens when it all goes POOF. Even worse, car crashes in the United States result in more then 40,000 deaths per year says the Institute in the Journal Injury Prevention.…

Electric cars cost, not so bad. The cost for electric cars may seem like a lot, but it's not. First of all, after tax credits, electric cars only cost about $20,00 which isn't a lot for car that's saving the environment. The batteries do cost a lot to replace, but they last a long time, up to ten years! Also, with an electric car there is no need for gasoline. For a full charge on for an electric car, it only costs $2.64, while the typical full tank of gasoline costs around $50. It has been shown that Americans spend from $4,000-$7,000 yearly on gasoline. One of the disadvantages is that people may have to install a charging system at home. A charging system only costs a little over a thousand dollars, but people won't be burning fossil fuels,…

The impact of the rechargeable batteries depends on the source of electricity. Most of the people think that the rechargeable or the hybrid cars (in other words electric cars) are environment friendly because they think that it is using refined and environment friendly energy but research professors show another side of the rechargeable batteries. According to them, the pollution depends upon the source of electricity. They say that most of the countries generate their electricity from fossil fuels, oil and gasoline. If a country or state is generating their electricity from the fossil fuels or gasoline, then the impact of the batteries will be worst because every time when they will need to recharge the battery, they need electricity and in that sense, the consumption of the electricity will increase and the environment will be polluted (Laura Williams). The Ohio university research shows that the hybrid cars and the use of the rechargeable batteries affect the environment. The reason is that the material which is used in the batteries is more harmful than the conventional batteries.…

The everyday automobile would seem like a silly thing to give up with all its amazing factors. But do the bad factors outweigh the good ones? Cars are becoming a large problem in our nation, with the effects they are creating on the atmosphere and world’s environment and people’s health, the dangers of driving, and the outrageously high costs they have, even when there is an easy alternative for the trouble of automobiles. When most people think of the negative side of cars, they might think of the gases being released and the damage it is doing to the world’s environment and ozone layer. As said in Running off Road by Grover Kingsley, “The auto is a huge contributor to greenhouse gas emissions… a whopping 23% of emissions came from transportation.”…

Electricity. One word that can rescue the earth from its current demise, global warming. Since 1880, global warming has increased by 0.8° celsius which may not seem like a substantial increase but it is. According to (NASA 2014) the average weather changes everyday in different countries, but this is the entire world's average temperature. A 1° global change is significant because it takes a colossal amount of heat to warm all the oceans, atmosphere, and land by that much. In the past, a 1 to 2° drop was all it took to put the earth into the Ice Age (). A 5° drop was enough to bury a immense part of North America under a towering mass of ice approximately 20,000 years ago. If global warming continues the effects on this planet will amplify coastal erosion, increase the growing season in some regions, melt ice caps and glaciers, and alter the ranges of some infectious diseases (Feature Articles). Some of these alterations have already begun for instance, increased temperatures and more heat waves around the world. Most scientists agree that the main cause for global warming is the greenhouse effect or greenhouse gases. In Canada, the largest source of greenhouse gases is from burning fossil fuels to gain combustion sources, transportation, fugitive sources, industrial processes, agriculture, and waste. Transportation is the second most leading cause of greenhouse gases with a total of 28.2% emitted from vehicles last recorded in 2010. In vehicles the primary source is that causes greenhouse gases is no other than gasoline. Therefore, part of the population who use vehicles that require gasoline should be using an alternate such as electricity, to reduce greenhouse gases, and to minimize…

The electric car is so much more advanced than gasoline powered cars and have changed the world even more. Gregory Davis says “Electric cars have several advantages over engine-powered cars. Their operation produces no exhaust, and so their widespread use could reduce air pollution. They use batteries, and so they do not necessarily consume increasingly scarce petroleum resources. Electric cars are quiet, reducing noise in congested areas.”…

Americans have a need to travel far and to do so quickly. Because of this we use automobiles and these in turn present a host of environmentally unfreindly issues. The tapping of oil is a mar on the environment. The refining of the oil into gas and safe oil for auto's creates smog. The transportation of the materials in order to distribute them creates smog through the use of tires and exhaust creates more environmental problems. The use of electricity to distribute the fuel is not environmentally freindly and the use of the gas once distributed is not friendly.…

One of the main key factors is continued operation cost. With a gasoline-operated vehicle, buying a gasoline to run the vehicle is never-ending process and operating a gasoline car tends to be very expensive because the gasoline cost is increasing day by day and will continue in future too. Moreover, these cars need maintenance time to time, such as regular oil changes, changing of other oil and filters, which demands money; for reason is that the normal car carries a much sophisticated engine. On the other hand, electric cars are cost efficient, because it simply runs on the power of a battery that is needed to be changed in a few years time. Also, Electricity is a renewable source unlike oil that means the cost to plug-in an electric car will not increase in contrast to how gas prices increase daily.…

An electric car is an automobile that is propelled by one or more electric motors, using electrical energy stored in rechargeable batteries or another energy storage device. Electric motors give electric cars instant torque, creating strong and smooth acceleration. They are also around three times as efficient as cars with an internal combustion engine. The first practical electric cars were produced in the 1880s. Electric cars were popular in the late 19th century and early 20th century, until advances in internal combustion engines, electric starters in particular, and mass production of cheaper gasoline vehicles led to a decline in the use of electric drive vehicles. The energy…
