Appreciation is an emotion that is not always displayed when necessary. People seldom show how much they appreciate ones words or action. When you appreciate something you show your gratitude in word form such as thank you or maybe even in the form of some type of gift or card. There are many ways to say you appreciate something or someone but for some reason in our society appreciation isn't shown as much as it should be. People seem to take peoples kindness as a given instead of something they should be thankful for. Even small gestures such as holding the door for the person behind you should be thanked. It seems like a small deed but did that person really have to hold the door for you? They did not, so shouldn't you therefore take the time to say thank you? Yes you should.

Personally appreciation should be shown the most not to complete strangers, but the people you surround yourself with on a daily basis, such as loved ones, family and friends. These are the people who are there for you day in and day out. Since these people are always around there seems to be a tendency of appreciating how much they actually do. When you need a shoulder to cry on, a friend to laugh with, a kiss from a lover to make the problems melt away you lean on the people who love you and you love back. But since you know they are always here for you and you cannot imagine them ever leaving your side you tend not to realize just how much they really do for you. So instead of showing them the most appreciation, they are the ones you take for granted, when in actuality they should be appreciated the most.

A relationship is a place where one can show their appreciation for another person. My boyfriend and I show each other that we appreciate what the other does in many different ways.
