Android has come a long way in a short time, but from an ease-of-use perspective, the iPhone wins out. You can pick up any iPhone and quickly, easily understand what's going on. It's got one main button on the front of the device, and everything you do consists of tapping app icons from the home screen. Android devices have several buttons on the front of the device that perform a variety of functions, and once you unlock the screen (and depending on which Android device you have), you're confronted with many different possible home screens and ways of doing things from those home screens.…

Steve Jobs, one of the pioneers and innovators of the Apple dynasty, once said, “I used to say that Apple should be the Sony of this business, but in reality, I think Apple should be the Apple of this business.” The late innovator changed the views of technology forever. Apple became one of the first brands to create and maintain their own software within their cell phones. Apple phones, referred to as iPhones, carry software built to last and produce great quality results. Android devices, some Samsung and others HTC, are not known to provide the strongest software and phones, but they get the job done. In terms of longevity, Apple wins the battle by a long shot by hosting phones that have life spans that range from one to five years with a minimal amount of issues, while Androids have been known for more problems in a shorter period of time. In terms of creativity a consumer might just choose the latter, as Androids are noted for being quite nifty with their designs.…

Apple has had enormous success in the Internet era, thanks to devices that they provide. They also have a loyal customer base that is always growing and continues to buy the new Apple products. Another reason for their success is because of the App Store. Google also has a dog in the fight when talking about mobile internet. Google is known for their supremacy in the search engine market. Google is aggressively attacking the mobile computing market when they acquired Android, Inc., the developer of a mobile OS. Google continued to develop Android, adding features that were unavailable to Apple users. Because of their Internet search engine they have a huge advantage in advertising. Microsoft is the leader in PC operating systems and desktop productivity software. But with this being said they have struggled in pretty much everything else they have tried to venture into including: smartphone hardware and software, mobile computing, cloud-based software apps, and more. 95 percent of Microsoft’s revenue comes from Windows, Office, and network software. The collusive activities of Apple and Samsung have increased the competition in the electronic industry. Because of their large market share, this control has led to increased difficulties for other companies such as Nokia to enter the market. In reference to the pie graph, the past year proved as the year that Apple and Samsung intensified their rivalry, while former mobile phone leader Nokia further slid down and continued struggling with low percentages. Apple and Samsung have over taken other electronic companies in February 2012 from smartphone sales and during 2010, Apple sold 8.75 million iPhones worldwide. This is an increase of 90% from the same period in 2009. Apple Inc. has now made $5.3 in revenue, or an average of $600 per phone, which is the total of $13.5 billion in revenue. However, Samsung is advancing on Apple…

“Apple's iPad showed that tablet computers could be a huge part of users' lives--and the iPad 2 was an even bigger hit. As a result of that success, many other manufacturers are releasing tablets. One of the most widely hyped and widely owned non-iPad tablets is the Samsung Galaxy Tab. After an earlier effort, Samsung released the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and is going to release the Galaxy Tab 8.9 soon” (Sam Costello, iPad vs. Samsung Galaxy Tab). “According to IDC, Apple was the number one tablet vendor in 2013 and took nearly 40% of the market, largely due to the smaller and cheaper iPad Mini. Samsung was number two with almost 18% of the market, followed by Asus and Amazon” (Steve Kovach, Business Insider).…

Android is a software toolkit for mobile phones, developed by Google and the Open Handset Alliance. Google did not actually create the android operating system, but when Google took it over, they improved it and made it an open source platform (Shane & Darcey, 2012). This open source platform allows this operating system to be used on any phone manufacturer unlike Apple devices. This is what sets it apart from other phones and allows the consumer to create a more personalized mobile experience.…

Android’s 50% market has also been achieved and surpassed in USA, and also globally. One in 2 smart phones being sold today run Android. With about double Apple’s market share, and some would say that will be enough for Android, but I think it will continue to growth up to 70% globally and at least 60%-65% in USA. So Google and Apple together should be able to own about 90%-95% of the market in USA, and similarly on a global scale. The only difference would be that Apple will have only about 20% globally and Android will have about 70% as early as next year. In most markets there are only 2 main leaders that dominate the market, with the rest fighting over scraps. Whether Android will grow even more than that after 2012, it remains to be seen.
