Apple Pie At My Thanksgiving Collaboration
When we consolidated around the Thanksgiving dessert table for a slice of delicious Apple pie, we all attempted to grab the dominate slice over the others. Somehow the pie was not as great tasting as we anticipated. The texture as well was off, as if it was a thin rubber. We decided to cut into the pie to examine the base of each pie slice. It appeared that the people who escorted the pie to the house we gathered in, managed to bring a counterfeit cinnamon pie used for display purposes. We had to wait as my grandmother taught my distant cousin who was docile to create an official Apple Pie. The Pie was… burnt. That was my fictional anecdote over at my Thanksgiving collaboration.

15 years, 14 weeks, 5 days and 44 minutes later, heretofore known as Now, Young Sigrid became ‘The Pie-Maker’, opening her own bakery, complete with a pie-crust roof and aptly named ‘The Pie Hole’. It was her sanctuary, a place where her gift of mysterious origin and dangerous consequence could do some good. No fruit ever went to waste in the Pie-Maker’s hand, but would retain its ripe flavour forever more, so long as she did not touch it again. When asked what it was that gave the fruit pies their fresh and flavoursome appeal, the Pie-Maker would shrug with a modest smile and simply said that it was her late mother’s recipes that made all the difference.…

My body felt all wobbly. I got off it was hard to walk. Next I walked over to a ride that I didn’t really know the name of. But it was really fun! Then I got off and decided to ride it again, and again! Next I got bored of the ride, and rode something call Tug a boat. It swayed me and other people back, and forth. I rode it again for no reason. There are many jokes about men saying women do not belong in the kitchen, which is in fact strange because most men are unable to even fix themselves a sandwich. Men assume that whatever a woman can do a man can do it better. Which maybe true but now days it is not because women are now working harder than men. In the passage Turkeys in the Kitchen, Dave Barry writes this passage to inform and entertain us on a very delicate subject of gender roles and gender inequality. Barry uses a tone throughout this article is facetious, stereotypical, and a simile to touch on theses subjects.…

However, it is the fresh cooked turkey that seals the deal for an amazing dinner. Cooking the green beans, the corn was a walk in the park for my parents, so that was nothing to worry about. However, what we did not think about were the pies. It is easy to go to the store and buy pre made pies, but nothing compared to fresh homemade pies. After contemplating, my mom made the decision to make an apple and pumpkin pie. For someone who had never baked cookies from scratch, this was definitely out of my mom’s comfort zone. What we were left to still think about was the turkey, and the big question if we would be able to pull of this huge…

    Sunday Dinner

Sunday dinner has been a tradition in our family for as long as I can remember. It’s a day where family and friends reconnect, catch up and bring generations together. When our family gathers, our guest includes babies, teenagers, young adults, middle-age, and senior citizens. When I was a young girl, I remember spending the summer at grandmas’ house. On Saturday morning, grandma would wake us up at the crack of dawn for breakfast because we had along day ahead of us this would be the day that we would plan our menu and do our shopping. My grandparents mostly grew their own vegetables; they also raised a few hogs and chickens. What we didn’t have we would spend all day Saturday shopping and preparing our menu for Sunday dinner. After an all day outing, we would help grandma cut up greens, shell peas or beans if needed. When preparing and cooking Sunday dinner, the women would be in the kitchen lending a helping hand doing something and the men would be in charge of churning the homemade ice cream or tending to the grill if any meat needed to be grilled. Our family is from the Louisiana, South Georgia, and North Florida area. We believe in cooking everything from scratch and enough to feed an army. The women young and old would work well into the night prepping food for the next day.…

In the course of working my way through school, I have taken many jobs I would rather forget. I have spent nine hours a day lifting heavy automobile and truck batteries off the end of an assembly belt. I have risked the loss of eyes and fingers working a punch press in a textile factory. I have served as a ward aide in a mental hospital, helping care for brain damaged men who would break into violent fits at unexpected moments. But none of these jobs was as dreadful as my job in an apple plant. the work was physically hard; the pay was poor; and, most of all, the working conditions were dismal.…

If you could host a dinner party and invite any four people either living or dead, whom would you invite and what would the five of you discuss together? If I am to invite any four people for a dinner party, it would be my pleasure to have the following present: First of all, I would be happy to dine with the chairman and chief architect of the world wide leader in software services and solutions, Microsoft Corporation. The guy considered to be the richest man on earth, no other than William “Bill” Gates. Another visitor whom I would like to join us would be one of the top businessmen in South Africa, the Chairman of Harmony Gold Mining Company Ltd., Mr. Patrice Motsepe. My third guest passed away last June 25, 1997. He was known for his invention of the underwater camera and underwater TV processes as well as numerous undersea expeditions and TV specials made useful up to the present. I would be glad if he could join us from the world of the unknown – Mr. Jacques-Yves Cousteau. And finally my last but definitely not the least visitor would be the 43rd President of the United States, Mr. George Walker Bush.…
