The Apostles’ Creed
In the Apostles’ Creed, the first line states that, “I believe in God the Father Almighty Maker and Creator of heaven and earth”. This line can be referenced to Genesis 1:1, which says, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth”. This can be referenced because it talks about in the Apostles’ Creed that God is the maker and creator of heaven and earth and in the bible scripture it tells you when and that God created the heavens and the earth. They are similar in many ways and are talking about the same thing on many lines. This is why I feel that this a great scripture reference to the first line of the Apostles’ Creed.
In the Apostles’ Creed, the fifth line states that, “the third day he rose again from the dead”. This line can be referenced to 1 Corinthians 15:4 which states, “And that He was buried, and He rose again the third day according to the scriptures”. They can be referenced together because they are both talking about how Jesus died and rose again on the third day. They are similar because they are both talking about the resurrection of Jesus. I believe that this is a great reference between the scripture and the Apostles’ Creed.
In the Apostles’ Creed, the tenth line states that, “the forgiveness of sin”, and it’s talking about believing in this because we all know that Jesus forgives us of our sins”. This can be referenced to 1 John 2:12, which states, “I write to you, little children, Because your sins are forgiven you for His name’s sake”. They can be referenced together because they are speaking on the reasoning that are sins are forgiven. They are similar because it tells us that Jesus forgives of our sins and that we should believe in this. I think this reference is a good reference because they are similar and they talk about the same things.
The one line I find difficult to understand, is the line where it says, “I believe in the holy catholic church: the communion of saints. I find this difficult to understand because I’m not understanding why it’s revolving around the Catholic Church. There are many different denominations out there so I’m wondering is it because maybe that the Catholic Church is higher above other denominations, so this is really puzzling me. I also am confused because I don’t know what they mean by this or what they are trying to by this. This is why I think this is difficult for me to understand this line and how I am confused by the meaning of it.
Yes, I think that there are parts of the Apostles’ Creed that is more important than others. There are things that were written that many people may feel are hugely important and things that may have a huge significant meaning to people and that are major thing to them. There are parts that can be left out and are not really important. Some parts have no meaning to me and I feel really don’t apply to me or others. I believe that yes, some parts of the Apostles’ Creed is more important than others and that many parts can be left out.
No, there are not any lines of the Creed that’s new information to me except for the Catholic Church. I have heard all this growing up in church as a little girl. The only part that I feel surprised about is the fact about the Catholic Church because that is the only think that sticks out to me and I’m not used to it because I’ve never heard the Catholic Church being brought up in church. I am so confused seeing this because I’ve never heard of it before. Therefore, nothing in the creed is new information to me except for the part about the Catholic Church.
In conclusions, multiple lines in the Apostles’ Creed can be referenced to scripture passages because they are connected and similar in many ways. There are many things in the Apostles’ Creed that is difficult to understand or that may confuse you as there were was one line that had me confused and had me questioning the Creed. There are parts that may have more significant meanings than others and some things aren’t really needed in the Apostles’ Creed and can be omitted from the Creed because they have no significant meaning to others. Some of the lines of the Creed may be new information to others like me because there was a part that was new information to me.

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; Through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.…

    Kingdom of God

    • 2243 Words
    • 9 Pages

“The Kingdom of God is basically the rule of God. It is God’s reign, the divine sovereignty in action. God’s reign, however, is manifested in several realms and the Gospels speak of entering into the Kingdom of God both today and tomorrow. God’s reign manifests itself both in the future and in the present and thereby creates both a future realm and a present realm in which man may experience the blessings of His reign” (24). The Gospel of the Kingdom by George Eldon Ladd explains what the Kingdom of God means and is. There are two parts to this kingdom; the present and the future. Each chapter has a specific point about the Kingdom of God that is key to the understand of the full meaning of the phrase. The First chapter is an in depth definition of kingdom of God. According to Ladd the kingdom of God means His kingship, His rule and His authority. (pg 21) In relation to time it was the past and will be the future. There are three different meanings of the Kingdom of God and this is called the threefold effect. This three meanings of Kingdom of God are: God's reign, a realm that we may enter under His reign, and a future realm that way only may enter once Jesus returns. Another confusion perhaps on the meaning of the phrase kingdom of God is when people or even the bible says to seek the kingdom of God. What does this mean? It means that we are seeking God's righteousness, His rule or authority in our life. The second chapter is about the future aspect of the Kingdom of God. The fullness of the kingdom of God can't be comprehended until Christ comes because only He can bring it. This age to come is this idea that we await and prepare for the second coming of Jesus. In this context, today's society is considered “this age” where evil is still present against God's will. In the second chapter of Ephesians, “this age” is described as walking in a way that displeases God. In second Corinthians, Satan is considered the “god of this age.” This is because so much evil and…
