Maggie,

My sincerest apologies for the delay in replying to you. I want to thank you again for extending yourself to me and I'm genuinely sorry for the delay. (On a personal note, my boyfriend and I broke up last week and I have not been myself, to say the least.)

The opportunity to meet with you is very important to me as I am tremendously interested in gaining a better understanding of the work you do as a public defender. Throughout law school, I worked as an intern in the D.C. Office of the Attorney General helping to prosecute minor misdemeanors and DUI offenses.     Defense attorneys in public defender offices often do not have enough time to prepare a case in detail for all of their clients. Further, they often do not have the budget to fully investigate the facts of a case through either staff or private investigators. They often must rely solely on police reports for such information. In some jurisdictions, clients do not meet their attorneys until they are in court. Typically, public defenders will meet briefly with clients in holding facilities or jails. We as an office would like to take this time to apologize for the way you were treated in our office on February 12, 2012.     I was a bit intimated walking in due to how big the courthouse looked, but once I arrived, I went to the help desk and a police officer kindly directed me to the room I was looking for.
