For the majority of the second half of the twentieth century, the Soviet Union and the United States were embroiled in a global contest; an aspect of this battle was the growing field of space technology, which was exemplified by the Apollo Program, which opened the door for numerous advancements in the fields of technology, education, and United States society as a whole. Amidst the shortcoming of the Cold War, the goal of the 1960’s was “to go above and beyond” in space exploration by successfully landing a man on the moon, which would serve as a gambit to conceivably lead the United States to victory. Before astronauts ventured beyond the earth, scientists had to assess the space environment and the hazards of human exploration. Soon after President John F. Kennedy assumed office in January of 1961, the space race was undoubtedly underway, and the United State’s primary focus was landing a man on the moon--hence, the Apollo Program. These Apollo Missions are significant in that America received technical credibility and hasted the end of the Cold War in our favor. Also, Carole Stott, a long-time astronomer…

The Apollo Missions I feel weren't exactly a discovery, they were a challenge issued by President John F. Kennedy in 1961. His challenge directed NASA to send, and land a man on the moon, then bring them home without harm. He also directed NASA to do this within before 1970. One of the main questions that was asked of the Apollo Space Program was could the feat of sending a man to space be achieved by the end of the decade. Another was, is the price of sending a manned mission to the moon going to be monetarily exhausting. The significance of the successful Apollo missions was the first hand knowledge and studies that could be done on the moons surface, that couldn't be done with a telescope or a camera. Another…
