Apache Creation Myth Summary

The two creation myths
In the Apache Creation Story it starts out with with no earth, sky, sun, or moon we only had darkness. Then there was was a thin disc, on one side it was yellow and on the other it was white. Within the disc sat a small bearded man, the creator, the one, Who Lives Above. When he looked into the darkness appeared light. When he looked down a sea of light appeared. After that he rubbed his hands and threw them down a shining cloud appeared with a little girl on top. “Stand up and tell me where you going,” said Creator.(Prince.org) She did not reply. He offered his right hand to the Girl. “Where did you come from?” she asked. They started to talk about what the creator should create. Thinking about it he created the Sun-God
Then the Creator says that the cloud for them to live upon. Then he created Tarantula, Big Dipper, Wind, Lightning-Maker, and some Clouds which then housed Lighting-Rumbler. Then the Creator want to makes earth so the gods shook hands. In doing so the sweat from their hands mixed together and the creator rubbed his palm then they created a small brown ball, It was the size of a bean. Then the creator kicked it and it expanded they kept doing this until it blew up to be the earth. The Tarantula spun a black cord and attached it to the ball. He kept doing it with a blue cord in the south, Yellow cord in the west, and white in the north. Tarantula kept pulling it to stretched the ball into a immeasurable size. Then the Creator rubbed his fingers together and hummingbirds appeared. The Hummingbirds flew around and came back to report that the earth is really beautiful with water on the west side. The earth kept rocking and dancing up and down. So the Creator made four post each a different color blue,black,yellow and white. After that he send Lighting-Maker to circle the world. Since there was no light they were done and wanted to leave the first world. So begochiddy planted a seed which would grow to be a tall and hollow reed. He then got all of them into the reed and ascended into the second world. The second world was light and blue and occupied by these cat people. The Cat people and the other beings fought for a lot of years. But in the end they did not win or lose. So the first beings left into the hollow reed to head to the third world. This world was beautiful and has a lot of illumination. They started to build camps and have lots of children. Then begochiddy make lakes mountains and rivers. Also he made a lot of animals to be with them. The first man and women were really happy there. One day as Coyote was walking along the river he saw this child of the water monster and decided to take home and hide it within his fur. The water monster discovered his son was gone he was Extremely mad. He started to make this world rain and cause many floods to destroy the third world. The first beings ran back to the reed and forced coyote to give the water monster back to the monster. Then the water was at the base of the fourth world.
