1) How did Lincoln’s position on slavery differ from that of Stephen Douglas? Lincoln’s poisition on slavery differ from that of Stephen Douglas. Abraham Lincoln believed that the slavery was very uncommon and scary that it scared the supreme court to declare that the Constitution can not extend slavery in the new states. Lincoln was scared to spread slvaery in the new territories which was connected with the Dred Scott decision of 1857. Stephan Douglass on the other hand argued for the popular sovereignity. Mostly advocating the territories that the people could extend slavery by not following the law, he supported the Dred Scoot deciison of 1857. 2) Did the Republican win the election of 1860, or did the Democrats lose it? Explain your answer. The Democrats lose the election of 1860. That’s because their party system did not stand on the idea of extending slvaery to the new states or terriotories. The Northern Democrats rejected the two groups that the Southern Democrats created which was the moderates and radicals. So, the Southern Democrats created their own party convention in 1860 and voted for the Vice President Brekinridge. Page 420 Chapter Review Questions

2) When and why did the Second Party Systen of Whigs and Democrats collapse?
The Second Party System of Whings and Democrats collapsed when the Southern Whigs did not agree to support General Winfield Scott as presididential candian in 1852. That’s because the Northern whigs refused to even support slavery. The issue among the split of slavery ended when the political parties did not attract these dividions and never would run a national ticket. Alsom the Kansas Nebraska Act of 1854 divided the the whole party system. Many of the anitslavery members went into the Rupublican ranks. The Democratic Party barely survived but it totally lost the election of 1860 to the new third party.

Some historians claimed that the mistakes of a ‘’Blundering Generation’’ of political leaders led, by 1860 to the imminent breakup of the Union. I agree that’s because the officials created a strong forced that shaped the citizens in Americe over the laws that was passed.
