Ao Orchestra Research Paper
I believe that I should be in the Ao Orchestra because my heart is dedicated to music. Every day when I get home from school I put 30-45 minutes into piano practice every day. Musical instruments have always impressed me and have brought a strange joy to my heart. Everyday I strive to improve at least 1 thing about me, whether it be school related, music related and even social related. Piano may be my most played instrument, but I truly enjoy the violin a lot more. The great excitement of becoming an Orchestra member has always thrilled me Through out 1 ¾’s of years experience my love for music has changed drastically. When I was first introduced to the violin, I wanted to skip practice, everything string I played made a displeasing plunk

There are many ways to define a drum major. A lot of the things I know about being a drum major are not things I was told as an expectation, but things that I was shown through the actions of these leaders. I've been told that a drum major is defined as one who leads the band into success, but I know that it’s a whole lot more than that. One should be approachable and knowledgeable, enthusiastic and serious, skilful and experienced. A drum major is someone who has independence but would never leave anyone behind.…

I was recently given the privilege of playing in the pit orchestra for the musical at my high school. I loved the experience of meeting other members of the music department, sharing many cookies. Challenging myself by playing music that I didn’t usually played exposed me to different music that went from five sharps to one flat. Because of my orchestral experience, I will audition for the Wellesley-Brandeis Orchestra. Having experienced a kind of merging between groups, I was able to meet different people (the band as well as the conductor for band), learning how to play a different style as well as learning how to communicate differently than that I was used to. Through the Wellesley-Brandeis Orchestra, I will have the opportunity to meet…

On February 19, 2015, Jared Blum at the Sacramento State University had his first concert of the spring semester featuring plenty of special guests. This concert was presented as partial fulfillment of the requirements that he needs for his Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies. Jared Blum, with his special guests (Megan Spurlock on the clarinet, Morgan Childres on the trombone, the Jazz Combo, the Jazz Essemble, and other special guests), collectively performed nine pieces along with a medley that compromised of three songs at the concert. Prior to taking this course, one of the first questions that I asked myself was “what do I know about jazz?” I have always consociated jazz music with the African American culture, mainly because of the general idea of how jazz music can give off a “bluesy” rhythm. Little did I know how diverse jazz music can be. “Creole Belles”, “Creep”, and the medley that compromised of “When you’re smiling”, “Swing that music”, and “Shiek of Araby” are the pieces that allowed the audience, including myself, to experience the diversity of jazz music.…

On Sunday April 7 , 2013 I attended the Junior Recital for Michelle Ellison (soprano) and Rachel Stanton (piano) at Oberlin College & Conservatory. Coming to my second show at Oberlin College I really didn’t know what to expect this time around. On this nice day at Oberlin College I observed many students outside playing their instruments and various groups outside singing in circles enjoying the weather. I could tell that these students were very passionate about music. Inside of the conservatory building the recital was held inside of the Kulas Recital Hall. This was my first time entering a room that was made specifically for musical recitals. The hall wasn’t too big but it was large enough to fit a nice sized crowd in a narrow room.…

Tennis and marching band are two extracurricular activities that require both dedication and commitment. Prior to entering my first year of high school, I decided that I wanted to take my love for tennis to the next level and make the O’Fallon high school tennis team. In 5th grade, I committed myself to playing the alto saxophone in the school band and all that entails with lessons and practice, with an eye on playing in the high school marching band. During high school, I made a commitment to participate in the Rose Bowl Parade in California. After making that decision, I found out I made the tennis team. Practicing both these activities in the summer and playing during the fall semester put me at odds with my parents on what should come first tennis or band. The amount of time needed for both activities to succeed was monumental and would be an uphill battle compared to the actual time I had. This caused internal conflict knowing that one will not get as much attention as the other. At that moment, I decided to come up with a solution to my problem then put it into action. One way or another I had developed two answers. I realized to become good at band and tennis something had to change.…

In addition to playing in my high school's marching band, I played in concert band until I left for C-Tec. I wanted to continue on playing clarinet during the winter months in a group ensemble. I actually found that I enjoy playing in concert band, much more than marching band because of the greater opportunity for advancement. Through the process of auditioning, I have improved my range in addition to improving my technical musical ability. Through participating in concert band I discovered that I greatly enjoy playing classical style music in addition to movie music themes. Due to my past experiences in concert band I have decided to continue playing in a concert style band once I attend…

I was unable to attend either of the two symphony orchestra concerts this semester due to my busy schedule as a rugby player, however, I had attended a symphony orchestra concert last Fall semester with my girlfriend for her St. Josephs College music class at the Stony Brook University Staller Center. I was hesitant to use this experience as it was slightly over a year ago and I fear that I may have forgotten certain important details. I can still remember certain key elements from the concert and the impact it had upon myself. I have also spoken to another friend that recently attended a Stony Brook University symphony orchestra concert in order to stimulate any dormant and preconscious thoughts I may have had in my head of my own experience.…

During my first semester at Wooster I have put all of my effort into being a good student and citizen in the Wooster Community. As a Violin Performance Major I am a part of the Wooster Symphony Orchestra. We practice every Monday to prepare ourselves for community performances. Outside of this I am a member of an independent string quartet with three other Wooster students. Both of these groups have influenced my leadership and group communication. The orchestra gives me the opportunity to work along side others who share the same passion for music that I have. It presents me with the responsibility to know my music fluently so do not disappoint my peers when performing in front of the the community, college, and staff. Apart from my…
