Antonio Lopez “World Of Fashion” VS. Angel Otero “Material Discovery”

Analysis Phase- Talk about the work as a whole

The Techniques that these two artist use in their works and exhibitions are polar opposites. Antonio Lopez in his “World of Fashion Art” exhibition makes use of any number of drawing instruments to mark a two-dimensional medium. Instruments used include graphite pencils, pen and ink, inked brushes, wax color pencils, crayons, charcoal, chalk, pastels, various kinds of erasers, markers, styluses, and various metals (such as silverpoint). In Contemporary art today, an artist who practices or works in drawing may be called a draftsman or advertising and promoting fashion maker. The human body, human form, bodies, fashion art, 70's 80's pencil, photography, paint, colored pencil are all present within Lopez's work. The accurate gesture drawing, realistic figure drawing, figure studies, art of drapery, wrinkles of fabric studies are included within Lopez's work. Fashion patterns within material and Layered collage are also prevalent within his work. Angel Otero in his “Material Discovery” exhibition uses the technique called Acrylic paint splattering using fast drying paint containing pigment suspension in acrylic polymer emulsion. Otero uses Acrylic paints that can be diluted with water, but become water-resistant when dry. Depending on how much the paint is diluted (with water) or modified with acrylic gels, media, or pastes, the finished acrylic painting can resemble a watercolor or an oil painting, or have its own unique characteristics not attainable with other media.

Discussion of at least 3 Elements Of Art.

Line or the distance between two points (or the path of his moving points), taking any form along the way. Ever since clothes have been in existence and there was a need to translate an idea or image into a garment there has been a need for fashion illustration. The use of Line created by a model neck line, dancer's arms, torso, and legs when performing an arabesque are clearly expressed. Lines can be horizontal, vertical, or diagonal, straight or curved, thick or thin. Antonio Lopez does this well in his works. Lopez forged a diverse body of work rendered in pencil, ink, charcoal, watercolor and film. I noticed that “Angel Otero Material Discovery” Exhibitions uses oil skins on canvas, techniques of paint peeling in his works. His technique in his use of line lead your eye around the composition and can communicate information through their character and direction. The Texture and quality of a surface, often corresponding to its tactile character, or what may be sensed by touch is pronounced very well in Angel Otero's work. The texture is used in portraying the fabric like material made from the dried acrylic paint. The Texture is explicitly rendered, or implied with other artistic elements such as his repetitive use of the same kinds of lines, little shading, and unity as opposed to variation of color. The few patterns and types of lines used in Otero's work create a rough, matte texture. The value or tone, refers and use of light and dark, shade and highlight, in Antonio's work is exquisite in his artwork. The lightness and darkness in his artwork as tints (light) and shades (dark) are piled and accumulate as you view the pieces. From the the Black-and-white photography depending entirely on value to the defined subjects within his colored pieces. The value is applied using cross-hatching, and hatching and create much contrast. The Value in Antonio's work and relative degree of lightness in his graphic works of art are huge. His colored pencil drawings are specialty and particular. The Shape in Antonio's work pertaining to the use of areas in two dimensional space are defined by edges, setting...
