Anton Zaslavki aka Zedd
Many assume that (DJ) Zedd is just a scrawny twenty four year old German that performs behind a computer screen for “wanna be” ravers. However, those naysayers are oblivious to his variety of musical talent. Some are into his music and others are not. Many respect the music but are not fond of it. I say his music reflects the millennial generation that is looking for “love”.
I say that Zedd is a musical genius that doesn’t get enough credit. Those who say Zedd shouldn’t be considered an artist because he occasionally touches buttons to make music isn’t aware of his vast capabilities. He primarily produces in the electro house genre but has extended out, drawing influences from dubstep and classical music. He was born Anton Zaslavski and was raised in Kaiserslautern, Germany where he started his musical career. He began playing the piano at the age of four and the drums at twelve. By the time he was a preteen he was composing and producing numerous rock songs in his band Dioramic’s studio. In 2009 his interest in producing electronic music was triggered and he rapidly caught attention of many. Zedd put out his name when he won two different Remix contests in 2009 and since then he has opened the third eyes of many.
I see Zedd as a self-made artist because he paid his dues to the musical society to get where he is today. He didn’t pop up on the charts overnight-he did a lot of behind the scene work for many mainstream artists that was unseen by the people. He released several original remixes for profound artists such as Lady Gaga, Black Eyed Peas, P. Diddy, Swedish House Mafia, and Skrillex.
He differs from Justin Bieber and Rick Ross because he incorporates music that takes you to another place. He is an offshoot of your generic artist. It is said main stream is laid by the foundation of the four P’s: power, property, prestige, and pussy. Yet Zedd can open the third eye and leave you in a new perspective.
