Antigone was Courageous
The classic play Antigone written by Sophodes tells us about a crazy adventure of justice, mercy and tragedy. It starts with a young girl named Antigone; she experiences great loss when her father and two brothers are killed. Her brother, Polynises was a great fighter, but was not given a proper burial and his body was left on the battlefield to wrought. Antigone was not happy with this out come. Antigone didn’t want her brother to die like this, so she took the risk to go burry him even though it was against the law. When her uncle, King Creon, found out about this, he knew he had to punish her, but he was torn since they were family. When Creon asked Antigone if she had done it, she didn’t deny the actions she was being accused of. She stood firm and took her punishment. Creon decided to put her in a covered underground pit with no food or water to die. Antigone went to her death never regretting her actions. After she was put in the pit, Creon had a change of heart, and when he went to go take her out, she had hung herself. Antigone died in honor. And because of her actions I believe Antigone is very courageous because she risked her life for her family and justice even if it meant her death. One good example of Antigone’s courage was when she was talking to her sister about burying the brother Polynises. She says “But I will bury him; and if I must die, I say that this crime is holy: I shall lie down”. She will die even though she knows it’s wrong according to law, but her values and what she believes, burying her brother is what needed to be done. Another thing she said that related was “I am not afraid of the danger; if it means death”. Here she is saying that if doing the right thing and serving justice to her dead brother means death, she is okay with that. The night when Antigone went to burry her brother, Creon had set up guards to see who it was. The guards captured Antigone and took her to Creon. The King was astonished
