We went to Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. When we enter the BSP, I noticed that the building is highly secured. We are restricted to bring cellphones, cameras, gadgets and our bags and we're only allowed to bring personal belongings. First Our tour guide shows us the different series of banknotes like the Bagong Lipunan series banknotes, New design series banknotes, New Generation banknotes and some various overprints. Then our tour guide takes us to a briefing room where he shows us different videos about the Evolution of Philippine Money and the process of how to make banknotes and making coins. I learned a lot and also the videos were useful since it includes the security features in the new generation banknotes so now I know what to look for in the new generation banknotes to define if it is real or fake. Next is he takes us to a floor where we can see the BSP employees do their job as they work on their workplace making the e-passports. Our tour guide explains that it is called electronic passports because it has a silicon chip where all the personal information is put. We're also showed the different facilities making the banknotes from the start to the sheet-cutting and ending at the counting process. Through the tour he explains that there are some foreigners included in the workers because they are training the employees in using and maintaining the new machines. It is a relief to know that even the machines that is use to make money are also being modernized. He also leads us to the Gold Refinery, a place where the BSP are supposed to smelt gold into gold bars, but it is sad that we're not going see the process of smelting firsthand since the BSP doesn't have any gold to smelt. With much trouble flowing around with counterfeit money, the United States tried enhancing the physical features of the American paper currency, making it harder to duplicate. In 1990, security threads and microprinting were introduced and put into production for the Series 1990 $100, $50 Federal Reserve notes, and by the end of the 1993 series all of denominations were changed except $1 and $2 notes. A security threads is a “clear, inscribed polyester thread” (Anatomy of a Bill: The Currency Paper) that run on the width of the paper currency printed with its own denomination; for example, a $50 note would say “USA 50” repeatedly throughout the thread. Depending on the denomination, the locations in which the security threads run vary on the paper currency. In order to see the security thread, the paper currency should be transmitted through light and when exposed to ultraviolet light, glows red. What cannot be recreated easily by advanced copiers and printers, microprinting can only be seen through magnification. In 1990, the words “The United States of America” were micropinted around the edges of the portraits on the notes.…

The raised letters and numbers on the plastic cards are now rarely used or even read. This then gave rise to “skimming” devices that could be used by some unscrupulous persons to electronically scan and save the information from many customers' cards. Techniques such as "skimming," in which criminals capture card information and personal-identification numbers, have existed for years, often on a small scale. A growing security concern with Skimming devices is the possible release of the user’s personal information or location to unauthorized parties. So, what is now needed is a way to increase the security of payment card use at merchant locations.…

Financials institutions now see the peso ending weaker against the strong dollar. The paradigm shift was bought by an improving United State economy, which made US assets more attractive to investors, particularly after Federal Reserve may hinted at trimming its bond-buying stimulus as the economy further improves. A depreciation trend may not be avoided on strongest dollar sentiment because a positive on it is that a weaker peso is advantage to local industries and families overseas Filipino workers and it is good for the competitiveness of the Philippine economy, and it’s not only for good for exports but even for the entire local industries that compete with imports. Imports now become more expensive than the local products, so there would be more local production and by that it will create jobs. Increase purchasing power of OFW dependent families will spur consumer spending and in turn to drive economic growth. To a degree the recent weakness in PHP does allow the BPO to remain competitive, the pesos weakness highlighted volatility- or sudden ups and downs in the exchange rate but according to the analyst short-term volatility should not be cause for worry as the country’s foreign reserves recorded at $82.9 billion as of end of may which is provided by the BSP to cushion upsides risk. Inflation is not in focus because the BSP has likely been smoothing the movements in the PHP and the size of reserve suggests that it will be well placed to limit excessive volatility in either direction for the PHP said the HSBC. Currency traders at local foreign bank who requested anonymity to protect their positions in the spot market said the BSP intervenes in the market when peso moves, win or lose within the day. The adjustment in monetary policy will only be employed should a weaker peso significantly stoke inflation or a rise in consumer prices. At the moment this does not appear to be the case…

And also, defined by a Civil Society group in the Philippines, PDAF Watch, “pork barrel funds are those allocated to politicians such as congresspersons and senators, to be used, based on their decision, to fund programs or projects in their districts”. Based on the research, the pork barrel system in the Philippines was introduced by the Americans in 1922 and retained in the 1935 Constitution under the Commonwealth government. But in the era of Marcos regime, President Ferdinand Marcos abolished the pork barrel and distributed the money instead to his cronies. Pork barrel became famous and implementing effectively in the presidency of Corazon Aquino. In 1989, it was first intended for special project in Visayas and Mindanao. But in the year 1990, the pork barrel of congressmen and senators was converted into lump sums or specified amounts, though as usual, influential lawmakers can increase their shares from the executive branch of the government. The pork barrel was dubbed the Country Development Fund (CDF) with an initial budget of P2.3 billion. After the abuse of the CDF was criticized by some quarters of society, it was renamed in 2000 with the euphemistic title of the current Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF). Under the Arroyo regime, each congressman was granted P70 million and senators P200 million each. ( Tamayo, Adrian.. 2011.
